Ferman said he would have cut the film (the rape scenes) if it had been submitted to him during his time as censor. |

Yes that was strange about Clockwork Orange, Kubrick never spoke publicly in interviews about his decision to withdraw the film. I wonder who these people were sending death threats? An unusual reason for a director to withdraw his film. Of course the tabloids insist the reason was because of copy cat behaviour, but of course they would say that wouldn't they. The film only had a very limited release anyway at the time. |

The BBFC's decision to reject Deadbeat at Dawn was covered in SEE NO EVIL By requesting the cutting of all shots glamourising the use of imitable weapons, we hoped to reduce the violence sufficiently to make the video acceptable as an 18, but this cutting merely revealed that the frequency and intensity of violent behaviour and incidents was an insuperable problem in itself. All the male gang members resort to violence at the least provocation, and the violence they inflict results in maiming, mutilation and death. Violent problems provoke violent solutions and the acting out of violent impulses provide the only pleasure on offer. Given the problem of violence by youth gangs in Britain, the Board is concerned that this video could attract viewing by young offenders whose own behavior might be validated and confirmed by the behaviour of the characters, resulting in harm to society and members of the public. |

The BBFC didn't really cover themselves in glory with this one. Surely they should have rejected it first, rather than the cut version. They'd certainly have had an idea upon first viewing what a cut print would have looked like.

I read in an interview with Carl Daft that the bbfc requested cuts and were going to allow a release when the head examiner entered the room, overuled them and rejected it.

What are the chances of Bare Behind Bars getting an uncut release over here?

It wouldn't be rejected again today though it would definitely be cut. The final house siege would be problematic. Especially the scenes with the boy.

Just been browsing the bbfc site and noticed almost all of John Waynes early short ( ish ) films have been cut.

Nearly always for horsefalls. With the exception of The Comancheros all of Wayne's feature films are uncut today. Quite a few of Wayne's films suffered cinema cuts on original release. |
