Hello all! As a Yankee looking to indulge in some Carry On films, I was wondering what were some fan favorites and preferred entries in the series from any fans? Thanks and cheers! ![]() G. |

Generally speaking, they are much of a muchness. They are traditionally British, and I'm not sure how well they travel overseas As a basic guide, '...Sergeant*' is a good one, but unrepresentative of the series. The gags are the same, but there is none of the smut that would characterise the later films in the series. '...Nurse', '...Teacher' and '...Constable' showed the team setteling into their roles. '...Regardless' is more of a "sketch-show" rather than a traditional narrative '...Crusing, Cabby and Jack' are more of the same. Most people seem to think that the genre spoofs are best, so a good place to start (for traditional smut-filled Carry On's) would probably be '...Spying, Cleo. Cowboy, Screaming*, Don't Lose Your Head, Follow That Camel and Up the Kyber*'. '...Doctor, Camping, Again Doctor, Up the Jungle, Loving, Henry, At Your Convenience, Matron* and Abroad' are all kinda standard - the team were well established, and seemed to be going thru the motions. '...Girls, Dick, Behind, England, That's Carry On! [compilation of scenes from the films], Emmannuelle and Columbus' are best avoided The ones that I have marked with an '*' are ones that I personally enjoy

How anyone can dis Carry On Emmanuelle is beyond me really, watch this and see why the british film industry went down the toilet imo. ![]() ![]() But seriously.... It depends really on your sense of humor. Recently i rewatched CODick, and was surprised how flipping prurient it was, not that this is a recommendation cough cough. England i have to say is the nadir (due to lack of regulars really) But then as a Kenneth Williams nut, i am very biased towards the ones where he shines out (Screaming, Follow that Camel, Matron etc)

Well, I tend to enjoy enjoy most thing which are 'traditionally' British, definitely including humor (not sure if this qualifies, but Withnail and I is one of my favorite comedies of all time!) so methinks I can appreciate the series, for sure! Sincerely appreciate the recommendations, all! VCI released a bunch of double features here....just trying to narrow it down. ![]() Cheers! |

They tried in 90s with carry on colombus and it flopped. What ever next? Confession films if it aint broke dont fix it. Love or hate them there a national institution in british films. But i agree some of the humour is traditional british style and wouldnt always work abroad |
