DRIVE Nicolas Winding Refn 2011 DRIVE The tale of a part time stunt driver, part time gettaway driver who becomes involved with a woman and her child and attempts to help her recently paroled husband get some vicious mobsters off their back. Violent, well made and moving,I was pleasantly surprised by DRIVE,in fact it's one of the best films I've seen in a long time. It also has a superb soundtrack which features Tangerine Dream-like pop syntho groups.Nice to see this sort of music again in movies! In fact,I've just ordered the soundtrack! Albert Brooks of TWILIGHT ZONE:THE MOVIE (Wanna see something REALLY scary?) and Ron HELLBOY Pearlman star as the two gangsters who must be appeased. Any other fans of this little gem which is set for a future huge cult following?

I haven't actually seen it yet It's on 'High Priority' on my Love Film rental queue, though. I've managed to avoid reviews for this one as I want to go in with a clear mind and a fresh pair of eyes. Expectations can ruin films, and I'm looking forward to checking it out. |

From Wikipedia...... James Sallis, author of the original Drive novel, has written a sequel titled Driven, which is scheduled to be published in April 2012.[90] Director Nicolas Winding Refn has expressed interest in filming a sequel, saying: "The character is born, he's out there, he transforms himself completely into what he's meant to be, he was always meant to be this… He goes on to more and new adventure[s]."[91] Refn further says that he intends the sequel to feature two drivers, one of them a villain counterpart to Ryan Gosling's character, comparing the new driver to Lex Luthor and Professor Moriarty.[91] Gosling also expressed interest in starring in a sequel, saying that he would "love to make a Drive 2" but that he "[doesn't] want to make the same movie" again.

I watched it last night as well. Definately one of my favourite films of the last few years. Ryan Gosling is Steve McQueen cool in this. The soundtrack is amazing, especially the songs A Real Hero, by College, and Nightcall, by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx. There's not one single bad performance in the film. Gosling, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Ron Pearlman and Carey Mulligan. Every one of them is pitch perfect.

The book's a good read if you like Crime fiction. Looking forward to the sequel. I wonder if Sallis wrote it because of the movie or it became a coincidence. Elmore Leonard wrote Raylan due to the success of Justified, so it made me wonder.
