A free program called Malwarebytes is worth a shot, very good at spotting crap on your HDD(speeded up my old laptop after using it), also if your antivirus menu has 'no longer up to date' make sure it's still active, mine deactivated and wanted me to buy an update.

Also do you have an anti virus running as some can slow down your computer?

I'm willing to try to help but I'll need more info...

There's a computer help thread btw.

It could well be real player as it takes a huge amount of your computer usage and slows everything down to a near standstill.

Just found this, the 2 other servers available in XP (including Microsoft's own time server) don't seem to be able to synchronize the clock.

This one works...

Synchronize Your Windows Clock With an Alternative Time Server to Increase Accuracy

EDIT and now miraculously they all seem to work...computers...

Have you tried a program called Glary Utilities? It includes plenty of tools to clean-up junk files, as well as allowing you to see info on start-up programs and disable them.
