So this week's cargo ended up like this.....

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 19th February 2011 04:28 PM

And BDC,you were right mate-that Razorback DID come with a 'pigskin cutting'

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 19th February 2011 04:34 PM

I watched BURIED last night, and although it was said the aspect ratio was wrong,it looked fine.

As for the film itself,I can't recommend it enough!
Gripping stuff!

It takes a real talent to keep you engrossed for ninety odd minutes with one character buried in a box!

Hitchcock would definetly have approved.....

Stephen@Cult Labs 19th February 2011 04:40 PM

Nice haul Reaper. Now, try and keep that Criterion STRAW DOGS. ;)

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 19th February 2011 04:42 PM

It ain't going anywhere this time round buddy.;)

Absolutely! Buried was one of the best films released last year in my opinion. Had the privilege of seeing it in an almost-empty cinema with a silent audience contrary to a lot of people's experiences, and was blown away by the execution of it all.

As would have Saul Bass with the title sequence

Reaps wow lol
Wish I had some of your money ;)

bad choice on buried tho
should go for US or German release

I like to see movies on blu as it was intended by the director.
I hate it when studio's change things.

Give that man a shake!

I don't mind too much if it's opened up to reveal more picture. Was Buried filmed 2.35:1 or Super 35?

PaulD 19th February 2011 05:37 PM

Haha. I saw the screencaps comparison and I could actually see an argument being made for the UK release adding tension by making it even more claustrophobic. Maybe whoever was in charge of the transfer at Icon was a frustrated director and took it upon himself to 'add' to the mood of the film :)

edit: Stephen - Buried was filmed 2.35:1, the dvd is 1.78:1

bdc 19th February 2011 06:57 PM

Some nice ones Reaps! ;)

Looks like the artwork on that version is pretty cool too.

the blob 19th February 2011 08:09 PM

Just bought this because it had Curtains on it.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

Just had a quick look and it looks like a VHS rip but still, I don't think theres many other options for it on DVD and it was only $5. I wonder if it'll ever get a decent release. It'll be my saturday night viewing still. :)

Sargento 19th February 2011 08:15 PM

Either way that clown looks shit scary! Almost as much as the old woman on ice skates in Curtains!! Nah, nowt is that scary!!!

I remember there was a particularly awful clip from that Secrets Of The Clown film in one of Kyle's comps. I'm actually half looking forward to watching it to see how bad the rest of it was.

Tell me about it, didn't realise how much until I listed them. I've only watched The Social Network and Buried so far, I've got Monday and Tuesday off work so I'll try and make a dent in the pile.
I've had to cancel my Lovefilm to give myself time to watch purchased films.

About a year maybe  All I'll end up doing is adding more on top week after week. Majority are from Poundland so I just can't resist the bargains.

Thw words 'good' and Franco seldom mix well together, in my experience, although I have seen (and own!) a fair few of his films.

Many of his films are not 'good', but I still enjoy them. The standout title from that box (although others will disagree) is Mansion of the Living Dead - so cheesy, in such a good way!

Macumba Sexual and The Inconfessible Orgies of Emmanuelle are okay, but the rest are not that fantastic; plus I haven't seen Downtown Heat, so can't comment on that one!

My top Franco recommendations would be Bloody Moon and Faceless.
