Airwolf the movie? ;)

skankenstoned 7th March 2011 08:38 PM

Until I watched Lizard In A Womans Skin I would've sworn 'til I was blue in the face that Dario Argento was and still is the master of giallo. It was just as easy to tag Fulci as the godfather of gore but now I'm not so sure. Now I see Shameless are set to release Fulci's Don't Torture A Duckling also starring the incredible Florinda Bolkan and having read some of the views expressed it would seem it's as good a giallo if not better than LIAWS. That's one of the reasons why I love Arrow, Shameless and classic Italian cinema because they never cease to amaze, please and educate me all at once!

oaxaca 10th March 2011 11:31 AM

Hows the AIRWOLF blu ray, Reaper? Tempted to get that!

I just picked this up off amazon marketplace...Looks like a total classic; loved Yaphet Kotto ever since watching LIVE AND LET DIE as a kid :D !!

LARRY COHEN'S film BONE (AKA: DIAL RAT):-

Nice.

I'm hoping Blue Underground Blu this one up in the near future - they are apparently supposed to be releasing two other great Cohen's on Blu this year: God Told Me To and Q: The Winged Serpent.

skankenstoned 10th March 2011 01:24 PM

Picked up Re-Animator, Killer Nun, Ratman and Oasis Of Fear. Going to finish my first Shameless 20 with Baba Yaga, Who Saw Her Die? and What Have They Done To Your Daughters? Will also be getting Phenomena and The Beyond while looking forward to getting Satans Baby Doll, The Beast In Space and Love Godess Of The Cannibals.

Looks good.

Just ordered Spirits Of The Dead from Arrow Films. Heard great things about it and I'm a sucker for the 4 panel releases. :)

bdc 10th March 2011 07:28 PM

Nice one Stephen! :thumb:

Sam 10th March 2011 07:58 PM

The last two blu rays I've watched have both been BFI Flipside releases; Herostratus and Privilege. Absolutely loved them both.

oaxaca 11th March 2011 11:10 AM

Watched Recently:

HOUSE OF THE DEVIL:- Excellent film! One of the finest horror movies of recent years I would say. Loved how it harked back to the eighties in almost every aspect; from the props/ used to the fairly heavy (but very consistent) grain present on the blu ray image.

PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK:- Classic seventies horror/mystery/period drama. Great music in the film, along with the isolation of the Australian outback around Hanging rock, generates a very surreal atmosphere. Very good AV on the BD too.

Just ordered OMEGA MAN (iconic 70s sci-fi bordering on blaxploitation film :p) for £4.47 from tesco website:

http://s2.static.mymemory.co.uk/imag...1234448693.jpg

Charlton Heston really was the king of sci-fi in the 70s

oaxaca 11th March 2011 12:20 PM

Also picked these 2 up :D:

You've reminded me that I need to pick up The Prowler at some point...

I love Black Christmas (one of the best horror films ever made), but have put of picking up the US/Canadian Blu as I've heard the PQ is very poor; it'd be interesting to hear what you make of it.

I'd love to see Arrow tackle this one.

Good selection of films there, bdc. I haven't seen all of the Urban Legend films -- are they any good?

bdc 11th March 2011 03:57 PM

I haven't seen any of them yet... ;)
But I've read the first one is the best, second one is ok and third is so-so...

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 11th March 2011 04:01 PM

Slash-tastic! ;)

I'm not keen on the Urban Legend films - haven't seen the third one, though.

I've heard good things about Kolobos though, b - it'd be good to hear what you think of it.

I really liked the first one but haven't seen the sequels -- I might rent them to see if they're worth buying.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 11th March 2011 04:12 PM

I've just added Urban Legend (BD), the two sequels (DVD) and Kolobos (DVD) to my Lovefilm rental list!

bdc 11th March 2011 04:12 PM

I've read it's relatively bloodless and more of a whodunnit than a slasher...still curious... ;)

bdc 11th March 2011 04:14 PM

Oh my,is that my doing?
Haven't seen Kolobos either...

You'll be regretting those words when you're buried under an avalanche of DVDs that was your to-watch pile! :heh: ;)

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 11th March 2011 07:36 PM

Guess what I just ordered. Yep, another bigfoot film! The Mysterious Monsters - it's hosted by Peter 'have you ever seen a grown man naked?' Graves. :woot:

The first and second are pretty good. Haven't seen the third one either. The trailer didn't look too hot (the same with the third I Know What You Did Last Summer movie).

oaxaca 12th March 2011 08:55 AM

Going through a BU phase at the moment... Just got this one for a tenner:-

http://images.cdquest.com/images/alb...7058702393.jpg

Haven't seen this original but I enjoyed Tobe Hooper's remake quite a bit (and thats saying something for a modern horror film) :p

That's another franchise where I've only seen the first instalment but none of the sequels! Probably something else for the (ever expanding) Lovefilm list.

bdc 12th March 2011 11:59 AM

Just picked up:
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006) (DFW) for 1,79 Euro new at a local shop... ;)

I've never seen Spirits of the Dead so I'm unsure whether to rent it or just go ahead and buy it -- recommendations?

Really gorgeous overall package (you can tell they were influenced by their little brother Arrow Video). The film itself is really good, the Toby Dammit sequence (the third short story) was the best. A real nightmarish dreamlike film that could only be described as a David Lynch film on some strong hallucinatory drugs! Worth watching just for this part but maybe rent it first.
No need wasting money on a blind buy though when I'm sure there are lot's of films out there that you love and still need to own, might be best to rent first in my opinion.
I won it in a competition myself but after watching it I think I'd have picked it up if it was cheap somewhere anyway as the overall package is just great to have in my BD collection to sit alongside the Arrow Video and the upcoming Arrow Academy releases.
