Was that the blu-ray you got? I saw the review over at dvdbeaver. It looks stunning.

eNoize 31st January 2010 11:45 PM

yeah, the two disc box set. have not had the chance to watch it yet, but I will when time permits.

I just put in an order for Phantom of the Paradise and knowing me, I'll probably watch that first before sitting through a serious 4-hour drama.

I thought it was fairly good pedro. A bit long-winded and self-indulgent in places, but definitely worth a watch IMO.

I did find it to be Caro's weakest film that I've seen - probably because he didn't have Jeunet helping him out on this one. ;)

It's daft as a brush though entertaining in a typical Paul Morrissey way ("If you really were clever you would bring me a WHERE-GIN from Italy").

I preferred Flesh For Frankenstein though they're on par really.

Both awesome movies.
I got GND on dvd from the US and its a disturbing movie, not as disturbing as the book though :ack:

I will have to wait till March for zombieland as I cant afford to import the US disc atm.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 2nd February 2010 12:10 AM

Flesh is definetly the more entertaining of the two.
But BFD is definetly worth a fiver-class package from Tartan.

Flesh is definitely a lovely classic.

eNoize 2nd February 2010 12:17 AM

indeed. I've only seen GND on DVD, so I wonder the picture quality in hi-def. There is also An American Crime on the same true story which is not half bad either.

People either like it or loathe it. Personally I thought it was great fun.

I've not actually seen TTM. For someone who claims to be a horror/cult movie fan, there's quite a lot I've still to see.

Yeah AC is more true to the story but less shocking as they dont show as much.
Dont think GND will be that much better then the DVD cause the way it was shot.

I got something called Dead End on a whim, mainly because Ray Wise is in it! No idea what the film is or what it's about! The unrated print of Darkness turned up too - I had to see if the uncut version clears up the few issues I had with this film.

Arrived today: Retromedia's release of José Luis Merino's Blood Castle (with astonishngly tacky sleeve art - it fair took me back to my old Betamaxes!).

It's an enjoyable black-comedy road-movie with a bleak plot-twist that a keen fan of supernaural horror will probably spot a mile away.
Dead End (review with spoilers!)

antmumford 2nd February 2010 01:30 PM

Dario Argento titles

Cat O'Nine Tails,
Profondo Rosso and
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage

Picked up all 3 at Poundland, bargains. Haven't watched them yet so can't comment but I gather the quality won't be so good as they actually look quite cheaply put together. Oh well, will soon find out :)

I rate Dead End too. A much better alternative to Cabin Fever, which was bizarrely popular at around the same time this was released.

Can't beat a good ol' Ray Wise vehicle.

I really wanna see this, heard so many mixed reviews that it's made me very intrigued. Could you let me know what it's like on Blu-Ray? I might then go pick up a copy too. Cheers

I loved The Wrestler and although it looks great on BluRay , it still keeps that realistic seedy look , plus it has a worthwhile 45min doc on the making of the film and some great footage from the CZW arena and a few words from NecroButcher.
A truly excellent film imo .

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 3rd February 2010 09:07 PM

SUSPIRIA.

A couple nights ago, watched Zombieland. Such a fun and hilarious flick!

"Time to nut up or shut up."

Also just sat through the new 'Stepfather'. :ack:

Daemonia 4th February 2010 12:54 PM

Watched the UK Blu-ray of Leon the other night and it looked incredible. Although I see what you mean about the contrast levels, they are a bit too high. The darker scenes look just fine and perfectly balanced, but the brighter scenes have a glare about them - you almost feel like putting sunglasses on, maybe that was Besson's intention, either that or he has a deal with Rayban. :D

The BD of The Warriors arrived today. One of my all-time fave films, so I'm looking forward to seeing that in HD!

pedromonkey 4th February 2010 01:56 PM
