And a REALLY big fan of nuns!

He became friends with rollin and got the rights to most of his output which he's released over the years on vhs, then dvd and now blu-ray. Back in the days he was often getting into disputes with the bbfc over his releases but in all fairness always endevoured to put out the best quality and most complete cuts of all the films he released. He was one of the first people to try and put out longer more explicit cuts of withchfinder general and his redemption release of deep red was the first version of the film I ever owned.

If I recall rightly, redemption at one point had the rights to michele soavi's STAGEFRIGHT, it would be great if redemption stuck that one out on blu-ray.

Anyway, i'm off now to watch jo nesbo's HEADHUNTERS before bed!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 29th August 2012 10:28 PM

Oh his output on video was legendary!
The Blu Ray covers are a BIG improvement Nigel!

davcol 29th August 2012 11:13 PM

rumble fish is a fantastic film, i can remember watching that after the outsiders on bbc2 back in the 80s.

davcol 29th August 2012 11:21 PM

Anyone remember his magazine, I think it was called THE REDEEMER. It was a mix of high and low brow film reviews and essays along with Nazi nuns and lesbian vampires photo shoots for really expensive clothes. It wasn't cheap itself now that I think about it.

I remember it being advertised in TDS back in the day, never got a copy though

I remember seeing it for sale in one of London's big record stores (Virgin/HMV/Tower, forget which) back in the day - always thought it looked a bit w***! :D

Watched HEADHUNTERS last night.

Attachment 77903

A corporate headhunter by day and art thief by night crosses the wrong fella and a brutal game of cat and mouse ensues that threatens to unravel his life.

Gripping and highly entertaining, headhunters is a well paced thriller with lots of interesting twists. Some things feel a little to convienient at times but overall this is well worth a watch.

I've used them for a few pre-orders recently, they seem to come in cheapest and always dispatch on the Thursday before Monday release dates, excellent service from them, Amazon should take note!

On the topic of Jaws, as I reached this recently (not the fancy new release though. A bootleg with great picture quality, but also little bits of print damage and occasional fading. Gave a nice feel to it.)

Did anyone notice the actual shooting star in the background of the scene on the boat where the Chief is reloading his revolver?

I always thought those were faked, haha.

I watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High last night, still a classic. Incredible cast really, some 80's/90's legends in there, and Phoebe Cates! HUBBA HUBBA indeed.

Anyway, blu-ray looked nice, like a film from the early 80's, which it is, so no complaints from me!

I've only seen it once, but loved it and have been meaning to buy it on DVD ever since. As I still haven't added it to my collection, I'll have to buy the BD sometime soon.

The BD is missing all the extras from the dvd. I bet the US disc (when it's announced) will have them.

ZOOLANDER is more stupid than funny
Ben Stiller has made much better and a whole lot funnier
when interviewed by Jonathan Ross some time ago he said he was maybe making a sequel
THERES SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, HEARTBREAK KID, TROPIC THUNDER are funny
but not ZOOLANDER!

Bringer Of Funerals 30th August 2012 03:31 PM

Linewatch
Spider Man & His Amazing Friends (Seasons 1 - 3)
Avengers Complete 1999 Series

These are the last orders of Aug

I really want Blade Runner the new set thats out (or coming out) even though I already have the 5 dvd ultimate edition of it in a nice metal tin and everytime I see it on Amazon it torments me. I haven't seen Linewatch but it sounded interesting and as you all know i get drawn to STV films. Plus you cant go wrong for 79p

War of the dead is pretty good, I'm waiting for Outpost 2 to arrive, I've heard it's better than the first one, which I enjoyed. Still think Dead Snow is the best of the recent Nazi Zombie movies

I hated "Dead Snow" with a passion but to be fair to the film, I'd not researched it and didn't realise it was a horror comedy, which I dislike, and just purchased it based on stills and art work.

I too really liked "Outpost", it's an underrated film in my opinion.

I'd never heard of Dead Snow until a mate told me about it and how funny it was, so I knew what to expect. As for Outpost, I only paid £1 for it from CEX and was surprised at how good it was, usually I pay that much for shite i.e Nightmare Hostel!

BTW, I've just found that Dennis Wheatley Devil & All His Works book that I promised to post some pics from last year, so I'll get some added to the Hippy thread later :)
