First of the new year!

Went into HMV Manchester tonight and a lot of the DVD's had stickers on their spines with an X on it. Overheard a customer ask a member of staff what was happening to which he replied that they were getting ready for a sale next week, they didnt know much about it other than it was a 25% off thing! I've never seen them put these stickers on items before and there were loads of them! I had the impression it was a going out of business sale! Although I didnt see anything else stickered!

Ooooh - what films?

Welcome back from the hospital. Hope everything's ok x

demonknight 5th January 2013 10:07 PM

All well thanks. Thought I may have suffered a mini stroke
but it turned out to be a really bad migraine. Took a few
bloods and did some tests and did a CT, and nothing
showed up so I'm happy. Great to be back with my
wife and two girls

The RH box set contains the following movies.

It came from beneath the Sea.
Earth vs The flying saucers
20 million miles to earth
The 7th voyage of sinbad

Yeah I noticed those X stickers today but didn't think to ask about it. They don't seem to keep the staff informed about their promotions - when I was in last week I was told upon buying a box set I could get another one at half price. It was the start of the offer and no posters were up and the staff had only just heard about it themselves! Sounds like last minute attempts to keep the wolf for the door.

JoshuaKaitlyn 5th January 2013 11:11 PM

Although way too expensive on most stuff, Ill be sad to see it go. Even though I do most of my purchases online or from Fopp/Thats Entertainment/CEX and Bee. That 'Island of Lost Souls' steelbook I got tonight was from Bee and it was a bargain what with their 25% off sale at the moment!

PaulD 5th January 2013 11:15 PM

My Newcastle HMV really isn't too bad to be honest. A lot of their stuff is reasonable and occasionally cheaper than online (seasons 1-5 of Dexter on DVD for £40 was a bargain £10 cheaper than Amazon). Nearly picked up two more boxsets in their offer but it was a couple of quid more than online and I have too much I watch at the minute anyway.

Hawkmonger 5th January 2013 11:42 PM

I'll have a look in Bolton on monday and see if the X's are present, if so a bit of a post-new year spree may be on the cards.

Just ordered this pair from Zavvi's 2 for £12 offer...

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

Damn. A couple of days not smoking nor drinking and suddenly I can afford extra BDs. I like this.

Hawkmonger 6th January 2013 04:31 PM

I watched The 39 Steps, Lady Vanishes and Notorius the other day as part of a series on BBC 2. Forgot how in love I was with The 39 Steps and ordered the Criterion BD today, the iconic image as the cover ws a wise move. Contimplating Lady Vanishes from Criterion also, I loved it but not quite as much as The 39 Steps. Notorius is great as ever and will no doubt order the BD at some point also.

Two very good choices. I really like The Others and consider Jackie Brown to be Tarantino's best film. This reminds me how long it's been since I last saw it, something which I will hopefully do next week.

You'll be amazed how much those cancer sticks leech off you, when I stopped in 93 cause of a wicked cough my wages lasted the whole month with a few quid to spare, bet that like me in a few years you'll go "what a waste of money smoking was" good luck with it bud.

Slippery Jack 6th January 2013 07:54 PM

So any of those titles in particular worth checking out? Don't think I know any of em  . . .

Watched Hitchcock's THE LODGER earlier and thought it looked and sounded (nice one Nitin Sawhney!) spectacular

Edit: Finally ordered NIGHT OF THE DEVILS, direct from Raro in the end, came to ~£16 with p&p. Thanks for the heads up about it being limited to 2000.

Edit 2: Picked up the (region A) BLACK PIRATE from cash converters earlier for a tenner. Bit of a shock to find that in there (unlike CEX they're obviously not fussy about buying & selling foreign BDs)! An HARA-KIRI was only £4 in cex.

Sobral 7th January 2013 04:30 AM

I'm now waiting for:
The Alfred Hitchcock Collection 3xBD
A Man Called Django! / Django and Sartana's Showdown In the West DVD
Django Kills Silently / Django's Cut Price Corpses DVD
The Colossus Of Rhodes DVD
Godzilla Vs Biollante DVD

I hope the mail service has already returned to normal...

Jinx_Barkman 7th January 2013 07:10 AM

I love the look of those Koch spaghetti westerns, The Mercenary is a particular favorite of mine. A shame it isn't getting the Blu treatment.

My first purchases of 2013, all four for $13.19/£8.22! I just hope they ship.

Currently having a flick through the Evil Dead blu ray.

Normally im wowed by the picture quality on blu rays, but why the picture quality is amazing on this, whats impressing me even more, is the audio quality!!

The soundtrack sounds absolutely amazing, same with the Dialouge. Truly fantastic!!

The only was he can get value for money is if he uses the cover as loo roll.
