Can find the right place to ask this question, so can anyone help.

Shot in the dark, but does anyone have the UK blus of Paul Auster/Wayne Wang's Smoke & Blue in the Face?

Can't find a single blu review anywhere on the internet. Even on Amazon the reviews are just of the DVD or VHS!

Currently having a flick through the Evil Dead blu ray.

Normally im wowed by the picture quality on blu rays, but why the picture quality is amazing on this, whats impressing me even more, is the audio quality!!

The soundtrack sounds absolutely amazing, same with the Dialouge. Truly fantastic!!

Is the Evil Dead bluray region A or B?
If I have it I'll check it out.

'Speed Racer' is certainly a one-watch film!

It's really cheesy, but intentionally so and the visuals are outstanding. It's a shame the disc doesn't have a high definition soundtrack. It's been a while since I saw it last and this is probably the prompt I needed to watch it again.

Some of you know about my project to view at least one movie from every year 1890 onwards well I've added a little addendum! Well not quite so little! Every movie that's won a best picture Oscar all 84 of them! There's a few here!

Been watching a WHOLE lot of Blu Ray goodies over the last week, which explains my less than usual visits here....

DIABOLIQUE Criterion....Superb film and transfer, even if it's full frame.

THE PATRIOT....Good crystal clear transfer in a Gibbo rabble rouser.

LAST OF THE MOHICANS....Like being in the forrest yourself!

SARAH'S KEY....Shocking account of what the French did to the Jews....

THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY....Still as funny after more than a decade...

ROSEMARY'S BABY....Criterion-the definitive edition?

BRAZIL Criterion.....Stunning job of a stunning film....

INFERNO-Koch Mediabook Cracking transfer and package of Argento's classy sequel.

DJANGO-Blue Underground....not sure if I saw this YEARS ago or not.... Anyway,it's a classic and has now got me curious about other spaghetti westerns......

THE COMEBACK-Underrated Pete Walker job, which looks slick on Blu Ray.Can't wait to see the other films in this R1 set.

THE BIRDS-Part of my Hitchcock boxset....was there some dispute about the quality of transfer on this?
Doesn't hold up to repeat viewings as well as Psycho, but still a classic.

FRENZY-Again one of my Hitchcock faves...watch closely, especially in HD as the bird Foster strangles in the office breathes clearly!

I haven't seen The Birds as many times as Psycho, but I think it stands up to repeated viewings as well as Hitchcock's more well-known film.

I can't remember reading anything about the transfer being poor, and certainly I didn't see anything to complain about or which didn't meet my high expectations. I've seen all the films in the set and will probably watch them all again – again in chronological order – in the next month or so.

I think I've done that before but, as I can't remember doing so, I'll join you in your project.

Most of director Sergio Corbucci's spaghettis are worth watching, particularly THE MERCENARY and COMPANEROS, both star Frano Nero too. THE GREAT SILENCE is another cracker of a film.

You should also check out the unrelated DJANGO KILL, which is quite something.

It is supposed to be full frame. That's the proper aspect ratio of the film.

Uh oh! Don't get Reaps started. He'll want it cropped, the way he wants it done to Night Of The Living Dead. :tongue1: Just teasing, Reaper :)

JoshuaKaitlyn 7th January 2013 08:56 PM

Thanks! One or two of the earlier oscar movies are a little hard to source at a decent price!

keirarts 7th January 2013 09:00 PM

I thought diabolique was full frame too?!

Dont ever recall seeing it widescreen

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 7th January 2013 10:24 PM

Worse, mine has no black bars when playing full frame (4:3) tv shows.....they're GREY! Black when it's a full frame blu-ray.

CEX, new, still in it's wrapping. I refuse to pay anymore for fear I might have to kill someone to even out my rage.

PaulD 7th January 2013 10:35 PM

Wow. That's a good price though for such a new film.

The steelbook's B, but there is an A locked one from Anchor Bay in the correct aspect ratio.

Go into player settings and turn off the screen saver function, then they'll probably go from grey to black. ;)

Two loads in HMV's 5 for £30 promotion:
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/...ps59afb4a8.jpg

A couple of things I should have purchased much sooner, but held off hoping to see them in the sale, but didn't (LOTR: Extended Trilogy & Ghost Stories for Christmas). A couple of new releases from the 24th (Berserk & Persona; Dual Format releases at DVD height make me sad :() one from the 31st (Berberian; one of my favourites of last year) and a few things in the sales:
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/...psd4b815b3.jpg

Not really related, but my main Birthday & Christmas presents :D I'm yet to properly try my Kindle out though, as I was in the middle of a book, which I just finished last night!
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1aeca4e8.jpg

It will be very quiet between now and the 28th of January for me, when the release schedule suddenly gets crazy.

SharonLynette 8th January 2013 02:14 PM

A few more blu-ray arrivals today;

The Berzerk and Persona 4 media books have forced me to start a new sub-section in my anime collection, breaching the BD's and DVD's.

CEX

The Chilling (Night of the Zombies) 5p :pound: And I still feel ripped off!

Marnie 50p

Usually hate seeing a Hitchcock film so cheap, but NOT when I don't already own it. :tongue1:

The Stand

demonknight 8th January 2013 05:14 PM

Unfortunately I bought and then watched BATTLE SHIP on bluray
Now while the AV presentation was top notch, the movie was
total SHITE. I cannot under good conscience recommend this
movie on any format, its that terrible. Tonight I fancy some 80's
horror, so I'm thinking maybe CHILD'S PLAY.
