So an enforced holiday today (a so called bridging day which bridges the public holiday yesterday to the weekend tomorrow) allowed me to get my weekend viewing sorted out early, I picked up (all German blu-rays):

Searching for Sugarman (the oscar winning documentary about a forgotten American (folk?) singer who was bigger than Elvis in South Africa.

Rites of Spring which I saw last year at the Glasgow Frightfest event

The Tallman which I saw in October at the Fright Fest Halloween event

and Compliance which is a new film to me.

All appear to be English friendly (not sure if Sugarman retains the English subs though).

I am working in the U.K. next week so will try to find time to troll around the Bristol HMV.

Do you know anything about this documentary other than the synopsis - namely, what they found out about "Sugarman"? If not, I implore you (and others who haven't seen it) to not read any further into it before you watch the film, because the way the documentary unfolds is fascinating.

I saw it earlier in the year at the cinema. Excellent, and as you say is much better when you know as little as possible.

Found an old dvd store that is selling all its stock and picked these up.

Watching The Circus with the kids now. Still such an hillarious classic.

I'd also suggest going to HEAD in The Galleries. Some bargains to be had there.

I second the HEAD recommendation. They have a great little world cinema/art film section with the average price about £6 per film. The horror section isn't massive but the prices are very reasonable.

Head is a problem as they don"t (didn't) carry a particularly good blu-ray selection (I made a decision a couple of years ago to only buy blu, except in very exceptional cases - such as The Devils).
