Nice, but Dan Curtis' Dracula is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Not long finished the full length version of Night of the Demon. The film looks amazing in Hi def and a first viewing in 1080p enhances its look and fear factor considerably.
For anyone looking for how good Hi Def can work its spell on a classic from the Horror Genre, look no further than here folks - this disc is the real deal.

Default Graveyard Shift

Well I have bought and watched a copy of this for myself. Summing up it is 1080i and is obviously from an older source as the picture is soft in places. However, it still has its moments, there is grain on view and overall it really a pretty pleasing presentation despite the source. Picture is bright, clarity is very good at times, and this grungy film really comes to life in Hi def. In fact the old Rat/Bat has never looked better basically. While the sound is not Lossless, the English DD 5.1 is surprisingly effective and separates nicely across all channels with no distortion. I paid £6 for this and frankly I think I got a deal.

I recently bought American Gigolo which, at present, only seems to be available in France. I've not got many other French Blu-ray releases as most of them have forced subs. I do have Phantom of the Paradise and De Palma's recent Passion but the rest of those I had I got shot of some time ago.

I think you did get a good deal with that one! I can only find it for 19 euros now. which is a bummer as I'd love it on blu... Hardly the best King adaptation but one of my favourites! Did you buy it from amazon.fr?

Good idea for a thread by the way!

Thanks - I think that France is an amazingly underrated territory for BDs. Hopefully this thread will shed some light on some of the nuggets to be found there.
As for Rats, I got it from a 3rd Party seller on Amazon.fr. Well worth keeping an eye out for this title as it re-appears every so often on that listing.

The English DTS-HD Master track comes with fixed French subtitles BUT the really good news is that these can be turned OFF by using the down arrow key when you select the Audio Menu on your player. You cannot turn them off via the disc Top Menu though.
This is a beautiful box set which includes a booklet full of photos and posters from the film:

Hi, just got this, can't seem to turn off subs though - what player do you have?

On both an Oppo 95 and a Pioneer LX91, I select the subtitle button on the remote and move the arrow key down to kill the subs. Don't try to do this through the menu - only works via the sub button on your player's remote.
This should work on other players too....
