Barbarella...a few years later it was Blood for Dracula's turn (unfortunately I was only allowed to watch the beginning)!

I went through a zombie phase at around the age of 10, I actually had a copy of Dawn of the Dead taken from the pre-cert Intervisison tape and used to regulalry rent out Zombie Flesh Eaters all the time from our local video library right up until it was taken off the shelves. When I could no longer access this type of horror, I switched to action films and rented Aliens, Cobra and Commando enough times to have more than likely paid for the tapes myself. A couple of years later I started to hold film nights at home every weekend with some friends from school and we watched Return of the Living Dead and Demons god knows how many times. As far as I know none of us have turned into serial killers yet despite growing up on this stuff. |

Great topic! I had a upbringing largely devoid of television and films, but remember the first film I really fell in love with and watched over and over again was Monty Python and The Holy Grail when I was about 11 years old. In hospital and I was 14 and 15 years old, I really discovered films and wore out one VHS of Leon, so had to buy another, and Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting and True Romance becoming firm favourites.

As to be expected I was also a huge fan of Porky's.

Someone just reminded me of this. I used to watch The Towering Inferno a lot as a child. It was either on tv a lot back then or must have been a fave of my folks. When it's seen uncut even today it's still quite strong stuff in places. There's a lot of early characterization and far too many famous faces to mention. Some of them die quite horribly. Perhaps not graphically but emotionally nasty. |

We got that at school!! But then I did find Naked Lunch in the library as well.... Watched so many "adult" things as a kid, but Threads and The War Game stood out. Would have been 13/14 at the time.
