I'll post a couple of alternate lists when the discussion starts to dry up.

So quick question.

Is Stage Fright a giallo or a slasher?

Whoever thought the thread would reach 60 pages and still be going strong after you began the top 10's with incest as the subject.

Well yes and no. A giallo is a type of crime film from one country (mainly) and usually deals with catching the killer and general mystery rather than just cutting up randy teens.

The term 'Giallo' is derived from the yellow pulp thriller paperbacks published in Italy. So for example Death Laid an Egg and Footprints are definitely giallo but they'd never be classed as slasher.

Besides some of us want Gialli as a category in it's own right on this thread, not lumped in with A Nightmare on bloody Elm Street.

Please feel free to argue and moan about this post.

Due to the killer being known and him basically just spending the running time killing people and the people trying to escape I personally consider it a slasher. It's Italian though so it often gets tarred with the gialli brush. That said, it certainly contains some gialli stylistic flourishes, but I think a lot of that is down to Soavi himself transposing a lot of that style into his film.
