You might be surprised that I only saw some of these last year for the first time!



My Top 10 BluRay releases of 2016
These are only from my owned list and aren't the best films of the year on bluray, but my favourite releases, in terms of packaging, extras and transfer etc.

6. Mysterious Skin (2004)
7. Heroic Purgatory (1970)
8. Hard to Be a God (2013)

10. Conspirators of Pleasure (1996)

Combining cinema visits and those which didn't even reach the multiplexes or, in some cases, not even the small independent cinemas and had to be rented or streamed, these are the best 10 films released in 2016 I saw last year:

• Son of Saul
• Arrival
• Finding Dory
• Embrace of the Serpent
• I, Daniel Blake
• The Revenant
• When Marnie Was There
• Nocturnal Animals
• Room
• 13th

That list is subject to change because there are some on my Netflix watchlist to catch up on and others on my Lovefilm list which I hope to watch before the week is out. I really want to watch films such as Your Name, Notes on Blindness, Julieta, Other People, Krisha, Sing Street, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Under the Shadow, and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Those that just missed out include The Invitation, Hail, Caesar!, Spotlight, Everybody Wants Some!!, Weiner, The Witch, Love & Friendship, and Moana.

There are probably several of the 88 Films Asia Collection, particularly Hex and House of Traps, which I've really enjoyed and would make the list if I had watched them more often.

Innocence (2004) cough, stunning wee film.
Knight Of Cups (again? yes yes yes)
Brilliant Stoned Drunk Dead National Lampoon doc, a revelation in places.
