Top 10 Umberto Lenzi Films

Rome: Armed to the Teeth (1976)
Violent Naples (1976)*
Seven Blood-Stained Orchids (1972)
The Cynic, the Rat and the Fist (1977)
Almost Human (1974)
Nightmare City (1980)
Cannibal Ferox (1981)
Syndicate Sadists (1975)
Gang War in Milan (1972)
Nightmare Beach (1989)

The top two films, Rome: Armed to the Teeth and Violent Naples are way ahead of the rest when it comes to Umberto Lenzi's work. So much so that i thought of just doing a top two.
Perhaps Nightmare Beach isn't up there with the best of Lenzi but i rather enjoyed it when i saw it for the first time recently. More so than the likes of Eaten Alive , Spasmo and Eyeball.

I think you summed up why Lenzi leaves such a fascinating legacy and why I considered making his films the subject of the top 10 even before the sad news of his death was announced last week.

From some of the best polizzioteschi to beautifully constructed gialli, war movies and westerns, exploitative cannibal movies with unforgivable animal cruelty to outright schlock, he epitomised Italian cinema, both the margins and the mainstream, across three decades.

It's going to be a very difficult task to make my list, and even tougher not to do my usual and put them in alphabetical order!

I’m embarrassed to say I’ve only seen 4 of his films

1. Man from Deep River
2. Nightmare City
3. Eaten Alive
4. Cannibal Ferox

You've definitely got some catching up to, with the gialli and polizzioteschi films he made arguably better than any of the four you have seen.

Yeah, it’d be the same with Rollin and Franco, I could probably manage a combined Top 10
keirarts and iank like this.
