Seriously, superb list and highlight the explanations for why each character is a horror icon.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a parody Nos, even though the film wasnt close to the book but with Kubrick's vision and Jack Nicholson's acting it certainly was a remembered performance.

I love the film and Jack Torrance will be on my list. I posted the Simpsons clip because you misspelled the film title as The Shinning on your list and wondered whether it was intentional or not.

It was intended because when I was thinking of the list I was watching The Simpsons and had Grounds keeper Wullie in my head a little Scottish humour.

When we was told Horror icons, i was thinking more along the likes of iconic monster bad guys like Freddy, Myers and Voorhees and characters that had been in more than one film.

Didn't even think about individual one off creatures or horror stars, or good guys as some people have mentioned.

If i had Barbara Steele would have featured somewhere i'm sure.

still it made narrowing stuff down a bit easier.
