Thanks to everyone who contributed a list of their favourite absurd films. It was something I found very difficult and I have a list of some brilliant movies which, from Arsenic and Old Lace to Zelig, I really wanted to include but didn't make the final cut down to 10. This week's topic is about films in which a central character is mistaken for someone else, or assumed to be something they're not. This is quite an old and effective plot device (one Alfred Hitchcock used several times) which has been used for comedic or dramatic purposes. I've looked at several lists online and Red Rock West keeps cropping up – it's obviously a film I have somehow missed and need to see. At the moment my list has 20 films on it, so I'll either need to do a lot of cutting or do two lists with the films in order of preference, one with 1-10 and the other with 11-20.
