Like you i saw Midnight Run pop up in Google lists. It easily deserves a place i agree, except neither De Niro or Grodin are cops so i wasn't sure why Google thought it was a buddy cop movie.

Deniro was a ex cop, so that might be why.

I think it fits the Wikipedia definition I mentioned earlier:

"A buddy cop film is a film with plots involving two people of very different and conflicting personalities who are forced to work together to solve a crime and/or defeat criminals, sometimes learning from each other in the process."

As the plot of Midnight Run (to the best of my memory) unfolds to involve a mismatched couple collaborating to bring down a mob boss and expose the use of dirty money, it strikes me as a buddy cop movie and is on my current long list.

Interesting call with Seven, which does actually fit the Wikipedia definition I am using for this week. I would say Point Break also fits, which is why I chose it for the gif on the first post.

BUDDY COP MOVIES

In no particular order, this is my top 10:
  • Hot Fuzz
  • Point Break
  • Lethal Weapon
  • In the Heat of the Night
  • Training Day
  • Midnight Run
  • Live like a Cop, Die Like a Man
  • Zootopia
  • Seven
  • Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

And these are the ones which nearly made it:
  • Men in Black
  • The Enforcer
  • Rush Hour
  • End of Watch
  • Tango & Cash
  • 15 Minutes
  • The Other Guys
  • Beverly Hills Cop
  • 48 Hrs.

This list could also include the Lethal Weapon and Men in Black sequels.

Thanks for all your Buddy Cop movie lists.

This week is similar to one from last year about the Arquette family, only this is focusing on another Hollywood institution: the Huston family.

From Walter to John, Anjelica to Danny, and from Jack to Tony, they have been involved in some classic films from the 1920s to now, with three of them (Walter, John, and Anjelica) receiving Academy Awards. You may want to do a top 10 for the entire family, specifying which family member(s) are involved, or do one for separate people.
