As today is Children's Book Day, I thought it would be interesting to look at the film adaptations of books which are predominantly aimed at children and for you to consider your ten favourites.

FILMS BASED ON CHILDREN'S BOOKS

I'm out of this weeks subject as the only films based on childrens books i rate are Babe and the two Paddington films.

So many i haven't bothered to watch and the ones i have seen i've thought to be merely okay such as the Harry Potter or The Hunger Games series, as it's just not my thing.

Not seen Dumbo, Dr. Dolittle sucked, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory adaptations don't come close to the brilliance of the book.

The ones in yellow i've seen. The ones in blue i've really liked and are worthy of a top ten placing. The rest are meh.

Are you sure Ben Hur is a childrens book? A Christian book yes, but aimed at children? Nothing in it's Wiki page suggests it was written for children.

I haven't read the book; all I know is it is on the Wikipedia page of children's books made into feature films.

Pretty sure someone's made a mistake there. I've just read it's full Wiki entry and at no point does it suggest it was written for children.

I had a look at that page when you mentioned it earlier and didn't think it sounded like a 'typical' children's book, but maybe it's something which was used as a book for introducing children to religious and political themes.

There aren't any children in the Biggles books, Shrek!, or The Hobbit, and they are all classed as children's books. That said, they are in the minority.
