I currently have a long list of 46, with five or six which are nailed on certainty is to be in the top 10. 1999 was an extremely good year for film!

The nineties were in my opinion a far superior decade for film in general than we've had in the 2010's. The 21st century has been dominated by total un-originality. Did you know that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is only the second film this year to top $100m in the US that isn't a reboot, sequel or other shit like that? Up, being the other one. Only The World is not Enough of all the films listed by anyone so far could be classed as a sequel, but even then it's not a direct sequel as the Daniel Craig films have been. |

The 1990s was a time when there was less choice of what to watch at home, with no streaming services and when DVDs were reasonably expensive to buy. Even renting from Blockbuster wasn't as convenient as streaming from Netflix. There are more reasons to stay home nowadays (buying a film on disc can be cheaper than a cinema ticket for the same movie, plus TVs are bigger and sound systems better), so it is easier to market something people know and be persuaded to go pay money to watch than something which is a complete mystery, hence the growing number of remakes, sequels, and franchise films. The 1990s could have been the last great decade for cinema.
