In fairness fistful of dollars is more rip-off than remake but it does steal moments shot for shot from yojimbo. I'm including it here. Nearly included The suspiria remake but don't fancy the abuse!

REMAKES

Another tough category – I have a huge list and it was difficult whittling down to only 10 films.
  1. His Girl Friday (1940) – remake of The Front Page (1931)
  2. The Fly (1986) – remake of The Fly (1958)
  3. Heat (1995) – remake of L.A. Takedown (1989)
  4. Sorcerer (1977) – remake of The Wages of Fear (1953)
  5. The Departed – remake of Infernal Affairs (2002)
  6. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) – remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
  7. Scarface (1983) – remake of Scarface (1932)
  8. The Last House on the Left (1972) – remake of The Virgin Spring (1960)
  9. insomnia (2002) – remake of insomnia (1997)
  10. Nosferatu: The Vampyre (1979) – remake of Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horrors (1922)

My thanks to everyone who contributed a list of their favourite remakes. It seems it was one of the more involving topics of recent times because of the number of lists and discussion about what people have included, plus what they omitted and why. It's great when a topic seems to capture the imagination and get a discussion going like that, so thanks to everyone.

This week, I'd like everyone to look at impressive follow-up films. They don't have to surpass the first film in a series or franchise (just as those in the remakes category didn't have to improve on the original), only be films which are the second in a film series, even if that's a series of two!

No place for Clerks II? It's a film I think you watched recently and one which you said could now be your favourite Kevin Smith film.

No, no place for it. I don't think it's better than any currently listed.

As the sequels topic was last done three years ago and some of you may have not changed your mind since then, here is an additional category for this week:
