How about expanding this to films sets during any civil war? There are several films I can think of set during the English Civil War, others during the Spanish Civil War and there are quite a few on the African continent, from Hotel Rwanda to Blood Diamond, so that would allow you to look at films from around the world and not just those set in the US.
