Black Christmas (1974)

Bob Clark's film about the girls at a sorority house terrorized by a maniac, firstly through obscene phone calls and then murder. What's different about this proto slasher is that the killer is actually hiding in the attic so as well as establishing a tone and mood for the forthcoming slasher phenomenon it also sets a precedent for the lesser filmed hider in the house genre.

Although the killer's identity is never determined we soon discover that they are in the sorority house which contributes immensely to the tension, however the films middle third veers away from the thrills to concentrate on sheriff John Saxon and his deputies searching the local area for what they believe is one of the madman's victims and there's a lot of comedy which detracts from the tension of the film itself.

Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder are excellent as sorority sisters and give what could be stereotypical final girls some much needed screen presence and personality.

The Polar Express. 2004.

Great family feel good movie from Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks doing multiple voices from the narrator, train conductor, tramp, Santa and the father. The animation is done decently and made to look believable with some dark moments during then train ride to the North Pole with the lost ticket and the carriage of old puppets. At least we get to see Steve Tyler as a Elf and breaking out into a song.

Black Xmas (2006, Glen Morgan)

I remember having a violent reaction to the opening scene the first time I deigned to peruse it.
Getting over that, I sat back to laugh my arse off at this monumental nonsense with all the subtlety of a house brick with a whiff of grand guignol to ice this rather slick cake.
Lawdy, what was the demon afraid of? Not even approaching the foothills of the plateau where the original sits resplendent, this romp made my night (so far).
The plot and characterisations made me feel like I was in some kind of experiment tbh.
Plus, one cast member's cleavage kept distracting me
It literally drew the eye in.
I digress

Ahem. Will never watch it again, but for what it was ... it amused.

I watched this for the first time last year and the animation creeped me out , Tom Hanks looked so evil!

It's an Asylum feature so is probably crap but perhaps not as crap as most IMDB'ers suggest. Anyway it's in Asda on dvd for £3...

Anna And The Apocalypse.

This is how us Scots deal with a zombie apocalypse, use any available weapon even a Christmas decoration and throw in a musical number or two. I forgot how daft and funny this film was yet the gore count was good and pretty bloody. Give the actors their due with the acting that was decent and Paul Kaye being the asshole head teacher.

Santa Claus. 1985.

John Lithgow playing the cigar smoking toymaker who creates dangerous toys teams up with rogue elf Dudley Moore to show that he can prove himself a good assistant to santa played by David Huddleston. This may be outdated and boring to some, even though the first half is the rise of Santa in the North Pole but this still keeps me quiet.
