Had you seen the series of Spooks, Ian? Just wondered how familiar you have to be with the series to get anything out of the film. I only watched up to series 3.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of it. Not all of it; I saw the first series on rental DVD and then I saw the last few seasons on TV and have caught up with some of the middle ones on repeats. You don't really need to be au fait with it, though, I don't think. |

I did like the series but didn't they kill off most of the cast at the end of the second series? |

Harry is pretty much the only constant throughout the whole series (and the film).

What about Liv Chenka? |

She misses out a couple of seasons in the mid-section, and she's not in the film. |

So, now the first half of 2017 already behind us, I have watched 224 films so far this year. Of those 224, 164 have been first time watches. Below are my updated top 10 new to me films thus far (new entries are in red). 1. The Neon Demon (2016) 2. The Wailing (2016) 3. Dark Passage (1947) 4. Mommy (2014) 5. Train to Busan (2016) 6. The Arrival (2016) 7. Red White & Blue (2010) 8. Nightmare (1964) 9. The Grissom Gang (1971) 10. Nights of Cabiria (1957) Full list here. Quite a lot of changes since my last update, especially within the Top 10, which sees six new entries, from the fantastic South Korean shockers The Wailing and Train to Busan, Noir thriller Dark Pasage (which was long overdue a watch from me), the refreshing and very well constructed The Arrival, the tense well-acted thriller The Grissom Gang and the melancholic but wholly absorbing character drama Nights of Cabiria. You've only just seen Dark Passage, b_e? Enough of the Polish avant-garde nonsense and watch some proper classics. |

Yes, it was one I thought I'd seen before, however on watching it realised that I hadn't! |
