I was under the impression the materials don't exist for a full HD directors cut?

Even if they don't they could insert the extra footage I would be happy with that, but I think that might of been a excuse on 101 films part.

I think 101 went direct to MGM (or whoever is holding the prints these days) the same as they did with Dolls.

Ok. Well if that's the case little chance of a blu ray version of the directors cut. But if as I said they insert the directors cut footage or have some good extras will just stick to the DVD

Unless they work with Clive to have a rummage through the vaults to see what happened to it. Judging by the extended release of Nightbreed there is a chance that any missing materials can be found.

The only way it'll be in HD, is if they have Barker help them with a full restoration. MGM don't have an HD print, but one could be created. Might be expensive though.

Worth the money from an archive perspective alone. The directors cut is a much better film.

Materials for a director's cut of Lord of Illusions most certainly do exist. Barker made sure that all the footage was preserved, that was his caveat in making the film for MGM after what happened with Nightbreed. He said at the time that the director's cut was a properly preserved work with all the original materials in top shape. So an HD presentation could definitely be done. The materials are properly archived and preserved.
