you might not dislike the ending as much as me though.
I'm rarely let down by Australian horror films and will try and stay open-minded for this one -- I'll let you know what I think whenever it gets posted out and I get a chance to watch the disc.

I was really disappointed overall to be honest. I know it's done as a love letter/homage to 70's/80's slasher films but because it's so over the top it just comes across as a tongue-in-cheek parody. The deformed, hulking, maniacal Victor Crowley character just comes across as a poor Jason Vorhees rip-off (even if Kane Hodder wasn't playing him) and for a film that concentrates so much on 'the kills' I found it odd that at least 2 of the deaths in the first one happen off-screen.

I thought the sequel was a bit better and because of the increased budget didn't have the cheap 'this-is-clearly-a-small-set' look of the first one (I have no problem with low budget films but the way the first one was shot made it look so obviously cheap and sound-stagey) but it wasn't great all the same.

Ah well.
I really love the script in Hatchet .. it has that special something that makes it more of a throwback to the 80s. Very well written IMO. Hatchet 2, well that was just shite!

Default What films have you seen recently?

DARK CITY - wasn't bad and no way a great film
DEAD SNOW - disappointed horror
SEXY KILLER - very good Spanish horror comedy

I decided to check out the Zombie Chronicles box set last night and they really have put three of the worst films in history in one box set . I have a fairly high tolerance for bad films but these really do take the biscuit. Forever Dead and Stiff Odds are pretty much unwatchable but I might return to Swamp Zombies at some point in the future since it looks the best of a very bad bunch!

I think Dark City is a brilliant movie and one that is easily on a par with The Matrix. I also feel differently to you about Dead Snow, one of my favourite horror-comedies of recent years but I do agree about Sexy Killer, a film I really enjoyed and should dig out and watch again.

Just got back from seeing True Grit. Really loved it. The main girl (I forget her name) was, as everyone is rightfully saying, tremendous in it. So was Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon too. Going to give the original a go at the weekend.
