£1 is a great deal for the DVD and your offer was very generous.

Back on topic, this evening I watched:

Guard Post (BD) which is a smart and well crafted horror/thriller which I've now seen several times but never got round to buying. It's still my wishlist!

The Creeping Flesh (DVD) starts off a little slowly but, with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee and Freddie Francis directing, the mood and atmosphere is nicely built up and the ending is just superb.

Count Yorga: Vampire is probably one of the weaker vampire movies I've seen recently but it's still pretty good and, once I've made a huge dent in my huge pile of unwatched discs, I'll definitely watch it again.

I'm currently watching Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season Six which is just brilliant TV.

You're right -- I do! That's what happens when you start writing a post thinking of one film and somehow move to a similar film (or director, as I've also done) halfway through!

I'm not surprised you make mistakes every now and then with all the threads you go through, it's inevitable.

I watched Blue Valentine today. Blew me away, the most incredible acting I've ever seen, it was all just so real and depressing. Still loved it though and will have to buy the Blu-ray when I can spare the pennies.

I really want to see that but, knowing me, if I did see it and wrote a post it would end up as Blue Velvet by the end!

Star Crash (Blu) - Stupidly awesome sci-fi cheese with the delectable Caroline Munro.
Piranha (Blu) - Joe Dante's original killer-fish classic.
The Pit and the Pendulum (DVD) - Roger Corman's adaptation of the classic Poe story starring Vincent Price.
Witchfinder General (Blu) - A classic, and a terrific transfer too, which rounds off my Vincent Price double nicely.

Over the last three days, I went through my collection and watched some Hammer classics.

The first was Horror of Dracula. Wonderful flick, very moody - a classic. But I am still musing whether James Bernard's score falls within the Geneva Conventions.

Number two was The Hound of the Baskervilles. My personal Hammer favourite - a fantastic cast (Cushing, Lee, Morell, de Wolff, Malleson), great settings, and spooky.

The last one was Brides of Dracula. One of the stupidest main characters you'll ever find in a flick (she does everything a sane person would definitely avoid to do) - but a very solid Cushing, a übergreat Martita Hunt (watch Becket and The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men, if you want to know why I praise her) and very nice photography (Jack Asher - he also was in charge for the two aforementioned flicks) made it an enjoyable movie. And don't forget that extraordinary windmill ending!

In all three flicks: Miles Malleson. He could even save a crappy film with an appearence of two minutes.

Greetings!

I agree, he always brought a bit of humour to his roles, which seemed to fit in with Hammer's style nicely. An Ealing stalwart too, unsurprisingly.

In my view Hammer's most underrated actor (and unfortunately underused!) was Andre Morell. He really made Plague of Zombies for me (Although John Carson nearly stole the show!) and is excellent as Dr. Watson in Hound of the Baskervilles. He was also ace in the TV version of Quatermass and the Pit (broadcast 1958-1959). A real old skool actor that brought gravitas to every role

You can say that again! Morell is really a face to remember, and a very fine actor indeed. Another movie, nearly solely pillared by his great appearance, is The Mummy's Shroud. I actually intend to watch The Plague of the Zombies this evening - this is a great Hammer, too. I like it a lot, as it is very moody and spooky. I cannot tell how often I've already seen it.

I've a small poster of this artwork on the wall:

Greetings!
