I actually managed to watch two more of my recently arrived HK films (one last night and one today)!

Last night I watched I Love Maria (1988) which is a film I have twice on vhs and now recently acquired on dvd.
I Love Maria is a scifi/action film where all the over-the-top scifi/action actually doesn't matter that much...because it's really a feel-good buddy (in the strangest way) film.
What matters in this film is the budding relationship between scientist Curly, reformed (?) crook Whiskey (both on the run) and robot Maria.
Sounds strange?
Well it's a HK film after all.

Btw Sally Yeh is great in a dual role as the real Maria and the robot who was created in her image.
It's not easy to play a robot.

Trailer (possible spoilers)

Just finished watching The Red Panther (1983) a HK film I'd never seen or heard of before.
The main reason I got it was because it was on sale (5 Euro incl. ship) at a HK webshop.

Well I was pleasantly surprised by this early 80's HK slasher/thriller.
I had some trouble in the beginning with the inspector and his mother but soon the film had me hooked and it got better and better...
I'd say if you get the chance to pick it up cheap...go for it.
It's a Cat II film so expect some nudity/sleaze and gore/violence.

Trailer (spoilers towards the end of the trailer)

Who Can Kill a Child?

Aside from the poor taste (in a bad way) opening, I really enjoyed this! It's a shame Serrador only directed a few features, as he does a superb job here with the Hitchcock's Birds-esque slow build of tension. I love how many of the kids remain childlike when they turn bad, rather than going down the Hollywood 'evil kid' route. There was something genuinely chilling about the scenes with them giggling and fooling around with their victim's corpses. Reckon this trumps Tom Shankland's The Children to become my favourite killer kid film . . .

EDIT: My mistake, the original Village of the Damned is still my number 1.

Just finished watching Blood Feast for the first time. Crap acting, shocking dialogue, abysmal gore effects, stupid plot, and you know what, I bloody well loved it!
It's been on my to watch list for about 20 years, since first reading about it in an early issue of The Dark Side, definitely gonna check out the rest of his splatter films now
