A second opinion.

Oasis of Fear is excellent, sure its not a giallo as such, its an exploitation film with hippies and almost dreamlike kinkiness, it is fairly slow moving but in this instance it helps develop both character and storyline in a languid style.

Its got a cast to kill for in Lovelock, Muti and Papas, a wonderfully trippy pop score and is basically an undiscovered gem from Umberto Lenzi. As far away from his seminal Cannibal Ferox as you can get.

Agreed. My second favourate Lenzi (That I have seen so far) after Almost Human. Can't beat Millian.

I also agree with what you say about time dulling the edge of 'Reanimator's OTT blood & guts black comedy. I guess that's the price of progress! Having said this, I've never had the same problem with 'Evil Dead' - it has a kind of vicious hysteria about it that goes beyond comedy.
me neither, I just know others who have.

Equally there's stuff in re-animator I still find funny, mainly the 'head giving head' as its the one part of the film that still feels transgressive and the morgue security guard constantly going off for a hand shandy right before trouble starts.

Contamination and Zombie Holocaust. Both films trading off the success of bigger and better films but both highly enjoyable in their own right.

Mrs MTDS has just finished this box set. Since she's in a plaster cast at the moment due to drunken tomfoolery, I'm trying to get her to watch Cronenberg's "Crash" but no joy so far.

I can still remember what the guy in Blockbusters said to me when I rented this back when it came out-"Crash eh, you must be one sick ****er if you want to watch this!", I replied with "I am" and walked out grinning to myself
Susan Foreman and Hawkmonger like this.

Such a shame the story didn't end with you being run over.

Watched Prison by Renny Harlin over the weekend. To be honest,it wasn't great. Had some well established names attached to it,like Mac Ahlberg and Irwin Yablans and Charles Band. But alas I came away disappointed.
