Seriously.

Utterly dismal Friday the 13th knock-off from 2000 (a time where people should know better) which fails on every conceivable level. It's poorly written, looks ugly (even the credit sequences look hideous), badly acted, not scary (or even gory) and just stupefyingly dull. It attempts a vaguely thoughtful ending with two surviving Final Girls (both with gender neutral first names Carol J Clover fans!) but by this point who cares? It's been a while since I've seen a film with so much utter contempt for the audience. Bloody Murder? Bloody Awful.
I did tell you.

I couldn't resist it for some reason and even though I went in with remarkably low expectations it was still a woeful experience.

Will probably still try the sequel at some point though

I saw Gambit at the cinema this morning and thought it was okay, nothing special or terrible – just mediocre. Although the screenplay is by Joel and Ethan Coen, it's definitely not a Coen Brothers film, though Michael Hofmann's direction is competent.

That's the exact vibe I got from the poster. One of Joel and Ethan's cast offs eh . . . ?

Yeah the sequel is far superior and actually fairly enjoyable.

Perhaps. It could be something they wrote and decided not to direct or they could have been commissioned to write – I don't know. In any case, it could have been a very good film if in the right hands.

Catching up on my Czech New Wave, and two more fantastic films, from 1965 Miloš Forman's A Blonde In Love, and from 1966 Party and the Guests which the Czechoslovakian government declared banned for life. Both of them on Second Run, one of the best DVD labels out there.

Currently indulging in a generous glass of single malt whiskey and the Synapse 42nd Street Forever bluray.

Spells bad times for my want list I suspect.

Yeah, I keep switching the commentary track on. Really informative. They've for a great job with the picture quality too for the most part.
