Had my eye on this for a while now, I've moved it up to high priority on Lovefilm

I really enjoyed this film. One of the best i've seen from the last few years. The film is undeniably derivative making me think of The Wicker Man and Hostel Part 2 among others with echoes of Bava's Mask of Satan thrown in.

After a slowish start which enables us to get to know the four journalists the pace picks up with the discovery of a strange mist on the outskirts of the village, and within it a grotesque statue. These scenes are beautifully done and an eerie atmosphere at once bleeds from the screen.

The Shrine is classified 18 which had me mystified throughout until we arrived at the climax when all hell breaks loose and the bloody sfx come into their own. The creature design is thankfully all prosthetic and the devillish dudes look really effective.

Highly recommended.
Persuasive. I'm sold and will get a copy ASAP

This evening i watched the Robert Zemeckis Sci-fi drama CONTACT, based on the Carl Sagen novel of the same name. A thoroughly engrossing intelligent science fiction drama with a great central performance from Jodie Foster. Loses some credibility towards the end but for a film that's 2 1/2 hours long and is overly scientific it's still gripping entertainment. I love how she's a firm believer in science over faith and by the end she's discovered the meaning of faith as she's gone on the journey. Wonderful special FX too. I hadn't seen it in a while and really enjoyed it.

Despite being a lover of the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" I decided to give the remake a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. Keanu Reeves is at his wooden best and that's fine, it's what the part asks for. He makes Michael Rennie look like he overacted in the great 1951 version.

I liked it and may one day watch them both to do a more critical comparison.

Nope, I haven't seen it, but it's now high priority on my Lovefilm rental list.

yesterdays viewings

Wolf creek really couldn't get in too this, even though lots of people seem to like it, just found it a little dull and had no sympathy for any of the characters

Death wish years since I seen this, a fantastic performance from Charles bronson, not as gritty as a remember but the rape/ murder still shocks even to this day, might pick up the other films.

Scanners what can I say that's not already be said about this fantastic film, a true classic and the picture quality on the blu is excellent

I agree with you on Wolf Creek - I watched it once and wasn't impressed at all.
