I believe he was only in 'insert no. here' scenes though? Didn't it have to be recut post haste?

Well, yeah, as per Gilliam's luck he died during filming, hence having to get the guest stars in to take over. I was surprised just how well it all worked in the finished film. Dunno how he would've got round it if Ledger had not completed his scenes set outside the Imaginarium . . .

House of Dracula is silly fun. I adore the scene where a lonely Talbot, looking totally lost, sits waiting for Dr. Edelmann like he has an appointment with his dentist.

I saw Evil Dead yesterday and thought it was really bad. There was no character development at all (due to the lack of interaction between the characters, I thought Olivia was called Emily) and didn't really care about any of them. It seemed the filmmakers were too busy putting nods to the original film in (the cards on the table appearing in the same order they do in Sam Raimi's 1981 film, the Oldsmobile outside and other such things) to bother with characterisation and believable dialogue.

I also felt it was unnecessarily violent to the extent where any dead space was filled with throwing blood at the camera. Also, the professor's voice during the end credits felt tacked on and the 'Groovy' soundbite when they finished was like a slap in the face to those of us who love Evil Dead 2.

It won't be one I'll be desperate to rent and will be very unlikely to buy when it's released.

Agree. Some of the effects were ok, but twas too po faced for my liking.

So I see Meyer can only write one story then. Walked out. A confusing and boring film.
Made up for it when I got home by watching Blue Rita again. At least you know it's there haha.

It was better than I was expecting but I agree with you about the dialogue and the characterisation. Some truly cringe worthy dialogue and I also didn't care for the scenes straight out of the exorcist.

Overall though I think it's worth seeing and one of the better remakes like maniac and MBV. The on screen violence, gore and cinematography was well done. It could have been a whole lot worse.
