Last night I watched the German blu-ray (English friendly) of the bizarre Modus Anomuli(I hope thats spelt properly). I will post more on this over on my diary thread as part of my Dead by Dawn coverage.

I also just finished John Dies at the End, a film I saw recently and still haven't made my mind up about. I will post more on my diary thread to finish my Fantasy Film Days coverage.

Its a public holiday here in Bremen today and in fine British tradition it is raining. So I should have time to watch somethin else this afternoon.

... and I did. I watched Blue from my Three Colours trilogy box set. Fantastic!

Is that the one with the black guy from Enter the Dragon? I've got it, but have been told it's abysmal.

I grew up watching Ray Harryhausen's films and the first that I can remember seeing was The beast from 20,000 Fathoms. In the first year of secondary school we read the short story "The Foghorn," by Ray Bradbury, that the film is (loosely) based on. As with most fiction turned movie the story bears little resemblance to the film. Try it as an experiment read the story, watch the film and pick up on any similarities, they may be few and far between.

I've got "Earth Vs the Flying Saucers" tonight. Rest well Mr. Harryhausen!

Watched three films yesterday, first up:

The Look of Love - A relatively lightweight, but highly entertaining biopic on porn.. sorry.. adult entertainment mogul Paul Raymond. I really like Steve Coogan anyway, and his brand of humour seems intact as his Raymond comes across as a charming and very funny guy. It has a nice balance of humour and melancholy, although the film is certainly on the sympathetic and celebratory side. On leaving the cinema I walked past the Raymond Revue Bar in Soho as I do numerous times, but this time with a quiet respect for the man behind it.

Iron Man Three - I'm no comic book aficionado and take all these Marvel adaptations with a pinch of salt, but this was good. Much better than part two, the series has matured nicely and it had a nice balance of entertaining bad guys, humour, and some very nifty set-pieces which it maintained throughout its running time. Satisfying spectacle then, and thankfully low on the Paltrow/Downey-Jr bickering - a schtick I was already bored of after the first two films. I've almost forgotten it already, but as big screen entertainment goes it ticked the appropriate boxes and greatly amused the other half and I for a couple of hours.

Switchblade Sisters - Jack Hill does Warriors with women, and good stuff it is too - all sass and trash talking in which a dangerous new girl gang recruit finds herself receiving the unwanted attention of her explosive leader's boyfriend. Loyalties are tested as the gang take to the streets (and the local ice rink) to battle a rival gang. Hill directs with gusto, and with a great cast (including Lenny Bruce's daughter playing the gang's punching bag) there's rarely a dull moment.

Recently re-watched the Basket Case trilogy on Blu. Really enjoyed them again, and also liked the documentary. I was surprised that Henenlotter seems to hate part 3 for some reason. I think it's as good as the first two. It's odd he dislikes it, considering it seems exactly the same in tone and execution as it's predecessors.

The cars that ate paris. There's just something about low budget Oz films from the 70's and 80's, isn't there? Like American slasher films from the golden age, they have a distinct atmosphere that is welcoming in it's nostalgic charm. Nobody seems to be able to act all that well, but that's actually a good thing.

Turkey Shoot See above, although this has a score by Brian May, which can be a good indicator that a good time will be had by all.

Legend -- being a huge Ridley Scott fan, weird I've never seen this before. It also falls in the same category as Blade Runner for me -- I should love the design, story, music, practically everything about it -- but apart from being impressed by it's technical quality, it left me a bit cold. I was watching the clock, wanting it to end. I couldn't really engage with it for reasons I can't fathom, much like Blade Runner.
