I'm the same, I watched the original Star Trek and some of the later series but I was not that bothered with it or interested in the films.

Just wondering out loud here, but did Star Wars dumb down Science Fiction Cinema ? I'm thinking about a lot of great intelligent sci-fi pre-Star Wars, like THX-1138, Andromeda Strain, Man Who Fell To Earth, Phase IV... I'm probably forgetting a lot of equally good thinking man's sci-fi from the 80's and beyond...

I know, I had the exact same experience and I was sure this was a movie I was gonna love. The director's first film Katalin Varga was a fantastic revenge film set in Transylvania so I had high hopes for Berberian Sound Studio, but when the credits rolled I felt it didn't add up to much at all...

We're going to watch it in college in a few weeks (due to the foley/sound design subject matter) on my suggestion, hopefully one of us will figure it out
