Watched The Hospital (2013) last night, what an abysmal film, actors speak their lines, camera lighting changes drastically between shots, camera is rather shaky, and thats the good points, nowhere on the box was it mentioned that the main point of the film was for guys to rape wome, thats pretty much it, box tells the plot as women going to a hospital to investigate paranormal activity but come across a pyschopath, yeah the first part covers the first 15 mins or so, rest of the film is guys raping these guys, ok if you like that shit, im not against them films but this was just gloryfying it. Lots of tits and ass if thats your bag baby. 2/10 ive seen worse but not by much.

Phantom of the Paradise De Palma endeavours to deliver something a little different and creates a demented rock opera that riffs on Phantom of the opera, Faust and the picture of Dorian Grey to deliver a wonderful psychedelic and at times very funny broadside at both the musical establishment and money men in general who corrupt artistic vision in the pursuit of profit. Theres so much going on here it really demands a re watch. Arrow offer up a superb presentation of the film. Watching the extras I noticed it seemed a bit french, apparently theres an already existing French Blu-ray release out there and this ports over all the extras. I suspect Arrow might have done some additional restoration work as the clips of the film on the documentary look a little too bright and seem to lose some detail as a result. Perhaps though just an issue with the documentary. Gone in 60 seconds. Had the blu-ray of this (origional!) version but not seen it until last night. A lot of the criticism of this film seems to center round it just being an astonishing car chase with a wafer thin plot. Perhaps, but I actually like everything that builds up to the 40 minute urban car chase. Director Halicki was perhaps something of an amateur at directing dramatic scenes and the acting leaves a lot to be desired but its all very hand-held and has a documentary feel to the proceedings. I really like the way he goes into great detail on the whole process of car theft and I do think the first half needs a critical reappraisal. No arguments about the car chase however. Still one of the best ever committed to celluloid. Puppet master 2. Still been meaning to play catch up on my 88 films blus, and still loads more I need to buy. Decided to give puppet master 2 a spin. I have to admit to never really liking the second film in this franchise. I always disliked Toulon in it as its established in the first one that he's william hickey and its bloody hard to find someone to step into his shoes that can really live up. Theres also some pacing and continuity issues that bugged me as well. However... I don't know if its the great quality restoration or the fact I watched it at midnight but I enjoyed this a whole lot more second time around. |

Well Twins, Lust for a vampire ect. were a Reaction to the stronger European horror that was gaining popularity. The added T&A was definitely a reaction to that. EDIT ***I don't think that by and large the brits have been able to 'do' erotic, the confessions movies pretty much sums up the national attitude to sex!**** |

I picked up the UK release of Only God Forgives whilst I was in Glasgow. I saw the film before on German blu-ray which lacks English sub's, but even allowing for this I enjoyed the film a lot more second time round. I also watched Reanimator and Bride of Reanimator which I picked up in the rather attractive German steel book. Next up were a couple of films that I saw at various festivals in 2012 and 2013 Ip Man 2 and Blood Glacier. The latter which I saw under the original title of The Station was on DVD as the only Region B release I found so far is the German one which, naturally, lacks English subs. Another DVD was Shameless' release of A Formula For Murder which failed to impress. After Machete and Machete Kills I returned to Rodriguiz's earlier efforts with El Mariachi, Desparado and Once Upon A Time in Mexico which stand up well, although I find Depp's turn in the latter distracting to say the least. Finally a quick trip to the local Kino this afternoon to watch Neeson's latest action role in Non-Stop. I really enjoyed this thriller which is well scripted, even if I remain unconvinced by the motivation of the hijacker. |

Having a movie day today. I might go late into the night seeing as my class doesn't start until 11.30 tomorrow. I've stuffed my face with candy, chocolate and energy drink and so far I've watched Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb. Great stuff! "Gentleman, You can't fight in here this is the war room!" Not sure what to chuck on next. In the mood for some more classics. Possibly Lawrence Of Arabia or another Kubrick. Maybe a classic car chase movie. Hmm, we'll see!
