I watched Assassins last night.

Richard Donner directs Stallone and Banderas with a script that was originally written by the Wachowski Brothers and then re-written extensively by Brian Hegland.

It's a very, very dull and bloated film. I remember going to the old Art deco cinema in my home town to see it way back in the 90's and not really digging it then. Now I just found myself looking at my watch and going to make cups of coffee. The whole mess could use some more interesting action scenes and a loss of about 30 minutes of fluff and then it might have been good.
Really? Shame as that's much what I remember it being like. I was hoping I might see it different with older eyes. I keep meaning to pick up the Stallone boxset but thinking Assassins was a bit duff.

Anchorman 2:The Legend Continues. Not as funny as the first one, but still really funny in parts and even a cameo from frigging Kanye West at the end didn't spoil it!

Still worth picking up that Stallone box. I'm yet to re-visit the specialist, another one I recall being iffy but its worth it for Cobra, Tango and cash and Demolition man. Also worth picking up is the other Stallone box set with First blood, lock up and cliffhanger (which is uncut in this set) I have the directors cut of the new rambo film and 2 and 3 are utter shite so I don't miss them!

I love Rambo II but I agree part III is a bit poor.

I watched Jack Reacher last night. I enjoyed it, although I've heard from a few fans of the books that Tom Cruise was miscast as the towering () former military policeman. It was surprising to see Werner Herzog playing the ice cold villain.

It's not a bad film but as an adaptation of the Jack Reacher character it's just daft. There's a bit where the detective goes to Reachers hotel and tells the receptionist they're looking for a guy who could kill someone with one punch. And she identifies Tommy Cruise. It's a direct lift of the lines from the novel except in the novel Reacher is six foot six and 18stone.

I prefer the Hot shots films to Rambo part 2. Almost the same films in places even though one is a parody.

Blood And Roses

I've always wanted to see this one and it was certainly worth the wait. Beautifully photographed and saturated with colours, this longer cut of this classic Carmilla vampire movie is essential viewing. If it was ever released on Blu-ray ( and why not? ) it would look stunning. As it is, this lovely looking German dvd is the business. Highly recommended.

Horror Express ( Blu-ray )

In the wrong hands, this could have been a bit of a dud, but as we all know, it's one of the most entertaining UK horrors of the 70s. The BD from Severin is region free and looks amazing.

I really enjoy Horror Express, but I thought it was a Spanish film and not a British one. Is that right, or was it a British/Spanish co-production? Anyway, I'd like to get the Blu-ray as I only have the Cinema Club DVD at present.
