Poster.jpg After his partner and best friend is murdered during an investigation of a well known counterfeiter just two days before retiring from the force Agent Richard Chance will turn his back on everything he believes and stop at nothing to get the man that murdered his friend even breaking the law he dedicated his live to enforce. A fantastic film set to a very gritty seedy backdrop of LA. There are no cosmetically enhanced boobs plastic surgery or fake blondes in this LA tale. Right from the get go the atmosphere is as heavy as the LA pollution and as intence as the heat of the city. The film moves at a fast pace and kept me glued to it from beginning to a very rewarding end. Not only does the city itself bring something to the film but a great soundtrack by Wang Chung makes it the complete package. Tonight was my first time watching this film and i have just ordered the Blu Ray i loved it that much.

The Third Man (1949) Classic British noir set in post war Vienna about an American novelist who goes to Austria to meet his friend Harry Lime. On arrival he hears of his friend's sudden death and finds the events leading up to it suspicious to say the least. After an intriguing set up in the opening ten minutes my enthusiasm is definitely curbed by the following half hour which if i'm honest is decidedly dull. However it picks up again after this rather long lull and climaxes with a brilliant chase through the bombed out city scape. The film is superbly filmed in stark black and white, stylishly utilizing the shadowy Vienna streets and sewers to give us a noir thriller that rivals the best Hollywood has to offer. Oh yeah! Did i mention that score? Highly recommended. |
