Happy Mother’s Day, Love George (1973)

Happy Mother’s Day, Love George (AKA: Run Stranger, Run) stars what I first thought was a very good Ron Howard lookalike, who I later realised was actually Ron Howard... here he portrays a boy on the run in New England on a quest to find his birth parents and reconstruct the jigsaw of his past. Unfortunately, a new face in a small town that is host to some brutal killings and disappearances does have its drawbacks.

The film has a quite light-hearted almost melancholic tone to it in many respects, and the 'whodunit' aspect revolving around the killings almost feels as if it is a sub-plot to the various eccentricities of the characters who are housed in the sleepy little New England Town and their relationships with one another.

All the performances are pretty solid, although the main plot device revolving around the quest for the birth parents does seem rather stretched and even disrupts the pace of the film at times. The identity of the killer is also far from a surprise, although despite the predictability there are a few nice little psychotic moments to be had here.

I used to play football with a guy that was OBSESSED with the Green Lantern comic books he had massive tattoos of him and when the film came out he went into see it every day it was in the cinema strangely he never said if it was good or bad maybe he was trying to boost box office sales to make sure of a second film. It would appear he failed

Nemesis (1992)

A bullet strewn nineties sci-fi actioner, which was possibly an influence on The Matrix due to its huge orgies of gunfire spewing, over the top, action sequences. Quite brutal at times, the action is pretty relentless with just enough time for the story to develop before more shit is blown up.

The film has a glittery cast of D-grade stars of the time - Olivier Gruner, Brion James, Tim Thomerson and former Dallas babe Deborah Shelton, and is a diverting, violent and above all, fun way, to spend an hour and a half.

Nemesis even breaks into my Cult Labs Favourite Sci-Fi Film 2014 list at number 98.

I am looking at all the reviews on here, like this appealing sci-fi and think these are all dvd based. I have in recent times just bought Blu's but if I want to wallow in D-grade stars, endless B movies and get through the afforementioned list related the Nightmare USA book I recently purchased, am I going to have to start buying DVD's again? I am scared this will open up another market, more money, less space, more moaning at me!!!

The Medusa Touch (1978)- "I am the man with the power to create catastrophe". Its these words spoken by Richard Burton's John Molar that have stuck in my mind ever since seeing The Medusa Touch for the first time back in the 80's during its first TV broadcast. Its a movie that I have seen countless times and can even whistle the end theme. Great movie!

Countess Dracula (1971)- Hammer's take on the Elizabeth Bathory story, blood of virgins, buxom wenches and Ingrid Pitt! Whats not to like?
