Hercules (2014) (UK Netflix)

Don't really know what to think, fuk it i'll be honest - I wasn't expecting much as I hate Bret Ratner and the bollox he produces. The only reason I wanted to see this was because The Rock was in it.

As it turns out, it was a pretty decent film with some bad CGI, it plays around with the legend a bit and Hercules has friends that help along with his adventure, a pretty good Peplum genre film but I would stick to the Steve Reeves films or anything from the Mill Creek Warriors set.

Hercules is a mercenary that does adventures for money, the fight scenes are well acted out but the huge multi person war at the middle gets marred by bad CGI, horse lovers will hate this film and there is smatterings of violence here and there with heads getting cut off and stabbings.

Watched The Unseen (Peter Foleg, 1980).
an odd film, easily Sydney Lassick's finest hour since One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Whilst I felt that the balance of the film is slightly uneven, I highly recommend this.

Wrong (2012, Quentin Dupieux)
To show mate, who loved Wrong Cops etc. He jumped when Eric Judor broke the coffee pot. And was suitably weirded out by Fichtner. He is the only Quentin I give a shit about now....

NOTLD doesn't have any copyright to it, so there's no license to pay to put it in your film.

TWICE DEAD - This is on that Shout Factory double-up with 'The Evil'. Found it to be enjoyable eighties dreck with some nice disjointedness and overall weirdness. I really wish I'd watched it straight, because my booze raddled memories maybe make it seem odder in retrospect, but, basically, some kind of murder takes place in a house long ago, and someone, a woman, turns into a dummy or something? I'm sure this is all rationalised, but I forget how. Anyway, fast forward to the mid eighties, and the house is re-occupied by some apple pie types who fall afoul of a load of 'Class Of 1984' style bad ass punks. Some mild rucking ensues before the wholesome dudes hit back by orchestrating elaborate and not very feasible pranks involving gore make up fx and the supernatural. But wait, something supernatural IS happening after all and history repeats itself and the sinister female mannequin lady turns up again (wish I'd retained that back story etc). Like I say, amusing and entertaining stuff with a slightly pin-ball feel to its plot moves, and possibly better off gazed upon through a drunken haze anyway.

One of my fav Hammer's. Weird how a lot of critics say their output really declined during the 70's but this as I say one of my faves alongside Hands of The Ripper, Blood From The Mummy's Tomb and Monster From Hell. I think as they realised they were losing their success during this time they tried to incorporate some new ideas with their gothic foundations, Jekyll and Sister Hyde being a prime example and it makes the films just as interesting and succesfull than say Dracula or Curse of Frankenstein from the late 50's.

How in the hell was this on my watchlist for so long.

My fav Hitchcock film yet, just overtaking Frenzy by half a star (that gets 4 and half.

The Voices.

Ryan Reynolds plays an amiable chap who goes off his meds and discovers life to be more entertaining. His pets speak back, his apartment seems nicer... sadly he also ends up becoming a serial killer. With a head in the fridge gag, a foul mouthed Scottish cat and Reynolds playing a flat out nutter I liked the film. It's flawed certainly but worth a watch.

I didn't like this film that much. It wasnt funny and it just felt really empty in places. I think it was the editing that just felt a little sloppy as if the editor didn't quite know how long to leave a scene in for and in some cases left in scenes that did nothing for the progression of the story. The redeeming factor for me was Gemma Arterton looking lovely
