I have these and they are quite good. Agree on those ICONS OF.... sets. Both great value.
Those two sets really came to my attention in January as one of them has The House Across the Lake in it which i noticed Odeon had released. They've been in my wishlist the past few months on a price watch.

I also have another VCI set of Kit Parker/ Robert Lippert noir films. All have fine picture quality and it houses one or two gems such as Mr. District Attorney.

Duke of Burgundy.

The film starts with what seems at first to be a domestic scene of a housemaid visiting a local country house for domestic work. Evelyn, the maid seems hard done by, by her domineering boss Cynthia. However, it soon transpires that this is dominant-submissive role-play from two women very much in a committed relationship. As the film progresses more of the characters relationship begins to emerge in-between the 'roles' each plays with Evelyn the more demanding and Cynthia, in spite of being the dominant actually having a lot of confidence and self esteem issues. We also get an idea of the hard work and frustrations of Cynthia as she tries to maintain her role in the face of Evelyn's increasing demands.

Director Peter Strickland has crafted a depiction of a BDSM relationship that effortlessly outstrips tired and fake Hollywood crap like 50 shades. Not only that but he imbues the film with an almost dream like style reminiscent of the best of both Jess Franco and Jean Rollin as well as a lot of other Eurotika allumni. Fans of euro cinema are well advised to give this a try. Even if you were not a fan of Berberian sound studio this is a different kind of film and really well crafted. The soundtrack from Cats Eyes is also phenomenal and really add a fantastical atmosphere to the film.

Just come back from Jurassic World. I really enjoyed it, a rare instance where i would say the huge leaps in computer effects since the original have actually been put to good use. The plot is a bit daft in places, stupid contrivances that are clearly there to move things along but its hugely entertaining. More dino carnage than the original films put together and frankly thats what i wanted.

What's the human aspect of it like?

There doesn't seem to be a Sam Neil, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Julianne Moore type to carry it.

I keep meaning to write my own review of this because I thought it was brilliant. Have you listened to the commentary? If not, it's well worth your time.

Suppose it depends. The token children are ok i suppose, the kids in all three of the original films felt like plot aspects rather than real characters to me. I quite like Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard who have a good chemistry. There's a cheesy relationship thing going on that works for me. Vincent D'Onfrio plays some sort of semi-sinister ex military security chief. Basically plays Wilson Fisk with hair.
I'm not sure who he is but the Indian actor Irfann Khan playing the new billionaire in charge is great and probably one of the best characters in the film.
The stars here are the dinos but I'd say the human element is well supported albiet in maybe a cheesier tone than previous JP films. To be honest i think the previous ones all took themselves a bit too serious. Only the original really works for me.

Fair enough.

I think that's why i like the first three - because they take themselves seriously. To me it makes the dinosaurs a greater threat than say, giant metal robots chasing chasing Megan Fox around.

I really like the original films – especially the first – but I'm trying to keep an open mind about this one, which I hope to see on Wednesday.

Oh no Dem. Don't misunderstand. We ain't in Transformers territory here. (Although I'd happily watch damn near anything chasing Megan Fox around. Preferably in slo-mo)
I suppose Spielberg cast solid old school thespians. This film has marvel stars.
