Came across it on a list of 70's films and it looks very interesting.

I thought that it was an interesting thriller. I picked it up on DVD in a 4 pack with 3 other titles and it was very good value for money. I think Wolfen was one of the other films.

I concur,If you can get this set cheap then its a great value boxset.I bought it mainly for Wolfen but all 4 films are class.I think Dem's put me on to this set.

I saw It Follows last week and I really enjoyed it, it was quite creepy and had a good few shock moments, not entirely convinced by the absolute raving it's getting in the press for being the best modern horror film in years but it IS good.

This weekend though was consumed with Orange is the New Black season 3 on Netflix, not as outstanding as the first 2 seasons but still better than pretty much all of the current TV out there.

Finally got around to Nymphomaniac Vol 1 as well. I didn't really know what to expect when I started watching it, however, it's not as explicit as I imagined. It's also a lot funnier than I would have expected Lars von Trier to be considering how desperately sad a lot of his films are, that's not to say this film isn't bleak, it is, but it did make me laugh out loud a good few times. Maybe that says more about me being cynical though...

Trying to find a spare 2 hrs to watch Vol 2 but with my Leviathan The Story of Hellraiser I & II on it's way to me it's going to be all about that this weekend!

I thought the first two seasons were brilliant and I'm currently reading the book before watching the third season.

Nothing in Nymphomaniac is as funny, or as disappointing, as Shia LaBeouf's attempt at an English accident. I was never sure whether to laugh out loud or try and bury my head in a pillow because it is so cringingly awful.

Nos, have you started the book yet? I'm curious to see how much the show deviates from the book, I can imagine season 1 to be quite true to the memoir but the rest to go a little more in the fiction territory.

I wont spoil it but some of the situations in Season 3 are out there haha.

I'm currently 100 pages in and haven't yet found anything which, aside from the crime, arrest, court appearance and arrival at the prison, matches the events in the first season. The inmates she has met so far are (mostly) different to those in the TV show, as are most of the guards, although there is the one who she describes as looking like 'a gay pornstar', who is in the show.

It's early in the story though, so I'll report back when I've finished the book.

The director's cut of Nymphomaniac is far more explicit than the first cut that was released. It also contains one scene that I found harrowing.

Torture Garden (1967)

American horror / fantasy author Robert Bloch adapts four of his stories for this second Amicus portmanteau feature, skillfully directed by Hammer stalwart Freddie Francis.

The wraparound story features Burgess Meredith as a flamboyant carnival sideshow entertainer who encourages four of his guests to witness 'real horror', namely unpleasant glimpses into their own futures.

The first story - Enoch - is a suitably macabre piece about a greedy young man who plans to steal his elderly uncle's savings, however he doesn't reckon on the demonic cat that lives in the basement which has a penchant for eating it's victims heads. A tight and tension ridden piece, Enoch is a lot of fun.

Unfortunately things go downhill after that. The next two tales about the trappings of celebrity and a haunted piano are quite unmemorable and rather dull.

However the final story The Man Who Collected Poe makes up for earlier failings and is worth the entrance fee alone. Starring Peter Cushing in a role possibly best described as a sorcerer, who brings the body of the great author Edgar Allan Poe back from the grave albeit in a seemingly comatose state, and Jack Palance as an avid Poe collector with his own horrific agenda. Cushing adds a classy gravitas to proceedings and is ably supported by Palance. The Man Who Collected Poe is a real tale of terror and one of the best in any Amicus movie.

Overall Torture Garden is an enjoyable watch with it's strengths lying in it's opening and closing tales.
