Elf – When I saw this the previous, and hitherto only, time, when I don't think I made it to the end credits, wasn't a fluke. It was just as annoying as I remembered, with Will Ferrell being especially grating, and Zooey Deschanel woefully underused. Grimsby – a gross out action-comedy, which is largely gross for being the sake of it, and with 'social commentary' which comes across as a privileged writer-actor poking fun and reinforcing stereotypes of the white, Northern, working-class, who feel disenfranchised and are the English counterparts of the Americans who voted for Donald Trump, another of the film's targets. I laughed twice, once when Nobby, the 'hero' responded to the revelation from a football game when the news of a child's health condition was being publicly announced, and the line about a large faecal deposit being cut up her coathanger. The rest of it was entirely forgettable, too disgusting or overlong (the elephant bukkake scene, for example) so was not as funny as it could or should have been.
