Evil Dead (2013) When i first watched this i absolutely hated it so i approached a rewatch with some trepidation. Again the first hour is a chore to get through as the script features some of the worst dialogue committed to celluloid. One clown throughout insists that 'Everything will be alright' - Yes of course it will. Your friends are either dead or demonically possessed and want to kill you and your last surviving mate, but yeah, 'Everything will be alright'. Another girl after fighting off a ferocious demon attack where blood spills and limbs are lopped exclaims "My God, what happened to her eyes?" It truly is risible dialogue that distracts from the film, at least in my case it does. The final half hour is a bit of fun which i appreciated more this time round. There's gore and silliness galore and it improves somewhat on the original film by not having demons made of plasticine. Had this been a reboot and called Return of the Evil Dead, or The Cabin of the Evil Dead then i may have more time for it, but as it is a remake, pure and simple - then i'll pass. |

The Fate of the Furious (2017) The usual big, loud, dumb, cheesy fun that it's been since Fast Five. ***1/2 out of *****

Doggy duties over. Back to it then.... Easing myself in with the Rocky Horror comm (O'Brien & Pat Quinn) Tis a tad subdued to begin with, but the anecdotes are arriving thick and slick

I rarely listen to them, the exception being Troy Howarth on the recent Bird... disc. It was fairly interesting, didn't really talk about the film as much as the people in it.

Fantastic Nolan's best film in years. Told from 3 points of view a group of soldiers on the beach, a civilian fishing ship heading to Dunkirk to rescue the soldiers and a spitfire pilot. liked how we never see any Germans which with the fantastic score gave a sense of menace with the sense of something sinister on the horizon. I was surprised that harry styles wasn't awful and I didn't want to see him get shot or burn to death. Really worth paying the extra and seeing it at his IMAX it looks amazing. Its a film that everyone should see atb the cinema its films like this the big screen was made for and another plus it has Tom Hardy 9.5/10 |
