It is a film of two halves.

The first half is a surprisingly competent drama. The child actors are uniformly great and the script is well crafted with some great dialogue. Some things are actually a little improved. Henry Bowers for example is a far more plausible character. Previously he was written as a generic greaser thug in the TV movie adaptation and in the book a repressed homosexual with psychopathic tendencies. Here he's a loathsome character however we see in his interactions with his father that he's trapped in a cycle of abuse. He's a more relateable character. The changes made make sense and the film has made an R-Rating pay off which means we should stop getting deluged with PG13 fluff.

However....

It's not scary.

Pennywise isn't at all threatening, there is little build up to scares and when he does let loose so does the computer effects. It also didn't help that it felt I was listening to scooby doo whenever he spoke but the overuse of CGI and the LOUD NOISE jump scares ware thin. I think it really made me appreciate how good Tim Curry is. Given he was given a lot less to work with his performance trounces this one easily.

Overall IT is a good movie. Hell, in places it's a great movie. Its technically better than the TV version for sure. It's just a bad horror movie. It's just very weird to say as a horror I found myself preferring Annabelle Creation. I did not see that coming.
Can't find the link now but apparently its becoming the biggest seller horror ever .
Like most films their that much hype surrounding it expectations are high, only for it to turn out to be good but not that good ..
That's why nowadays I go with films I don't know much about now because your almost going into the film blind with no expectations .

That's the reason I am not really interested in seeing 'It'...yet

It has been built up so much, that I am invariably going to end up being disappointed

I had the same problem with 'The Silence Of The Lambs'. I saw it at the cinema when it was first released, and left feeling distinctly underwhelmed because it wasn't as good as I had been led to believe

The hype ruined it for me, and even now, I can't get excited by it

Red Eye (2005)

A rare Wes Craven venture into the mainstream. This thriller starring Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy in a game of cat and mouse aboard a 'red eye' (Depart late night - early morning arrival, for those unaware) flight involving an assassination attempt on a Homeland Security chief.

McAdams is quite good in her role, at first vulnerable and insecure but growing into her situation with great courage whilst Murphy, all smiles and charm to begin with becomes ever more unhinged leading up to a finale which sees Craven back on home turf in what is essentially a slasher movie / final girl showdown.

I've seen this film a few times now and whilst it possibly isn't Wes Craven at his best, - the conspiracy plot isn't high in the logic stakes,- he's still able to notch up the tension levels before a palm clenching climax and although it's watered down Craven, it will appeal to it's intended mainstream audience.

It's a film I also enjoy and, if memory serves, benefits from Brian Cox adding his usual gravitas to the supporting cast.

Brian Cox is always worth watching in my opinion. It's a pity he has what amounts to only a couple of minutes screen time (although it might seem more).

It's been a couple of years since I saw it last, but I seem to remember Brian Cox having a significant role in with the supporting cast, but that could be testament to his screen presence and having an impact which belies his lack of screen time.

Forsooth.

But still.
No one has screen presence that matches the great lord Brian Blessed, the only man that can devour the universe whole in one gasp, lay on the bacon and spit it out in the next sentence and coat it with a layer of insane icing that scrambles the felactic nodes in supreme spasmatic delight.

So says I.
Much like Fizzgig from the Dark Crystal.

Ouija: origin of evil 2016

A mother buys a Ouija board to step up their seance scam and invite a evil spirit into their home.

This is the prequel to the movie Ouija 2014, like its predecessor the movie starts of slow but does pick up, the back story of the sisters is told brilliantly. Some jumps scenes are predictable and few weren't. This is one to definitely to watch in the dark. 7 out of 10.
