In A Valley Of Violence (2016, Ti West) His best effort since House Of The Devil imo. Ethan Hawke falls foul of a bully and his lackeys. Big mistake lads Loved the title sequence also ... v cheeky

The Supergrass (1985, Peter Richardson) The Comic Strip's first film. Uneven and somewhat flat I always found. Possibly it's the emphasis of plot over humor? Which is the kiss of death in a comedy imo. There are flashes .... but it was endemic in the 80s here. Stiff, lifeless worthy pieces playing to the braying classes and .... not much else. A lack of confidence imo. I digress. Night!!

Close-Encounters-of-the-Third-Kind-40th-Poster.jpg CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND 40TH ANNIVERSARY 4K Cinema showing Great to see this again on the big screen. The scenes at Devil's Tower when the Mothership appears looked just awesome. My only disappointment was that this was not the 1977 theatrical version but the 'Collectors Edition' cut. The film was preceded by a featurette. Released on Blu ray in a few weeks time. |

Watched Alien Covenant last night. I enjoyed watching it but did feel quite underwhelmed by the film. I would need a second viewing to judge it properly. Trouble is, my expectations are always so high whenever I see a new Alien franchise movie. Especially if it's directed by Ridley Scott. I think that I actually currently prefer Prometheus. Even though this film had the advantage of featuring a genuine xenomorph. btw Bothered me that we didn't see a chestburster and that it was a mini-alien instead. Perhaps Scott explains the reason for that in his commentary track. Current film score - a grudging 7/10. (Also I would have liked to have seen the Noomi Rapice footage in the actual film rather than being presented on the bd as a separate web-isode thing).

RE The Chestbuster, I thought it was to do with *potential spoiler alert* the evolution of the alien design and that they were prototypes, obviously the events of ALIEN were in the future and the design had been altered by then.

It just seemed odd that one of the four life cycles was missing. We see an egg, facehugger and xenomorph but no chestburster. I just listened to some of the Ridley Scott commentary to see if he would explain the absence but no mention of it. I also just watched this video which has some interesting Alien Covenant questions (obviously features spoilers): Edit. Thinking about it, another life cycle is missing: a queen.

I watched the video and found that entertaining SF. Then watched their review of IT, which i saw last night. They pretty much sum up perfectly how i felt about the film. (WARNING- do not watch if you haven't seen the film as it the discussion is pretty thorough.) I'll try and do a proper review later as i am quite busy today.
