Star Wars - The Last Jedi largeposter.jpg Went to see this earlier and i must say i really enjoyed it. I knew i was going to struggle with the run time and i was a little apprehensive due to conflicting views on the film, (i purposely have been avoiding reading any spoiler filled reviews). I thought i might need a fag break and the toilet midway, but once the film started i was in the moment and managed to use the force to override my bladder and last the entire film in my seat. So what is my conclusion? Well i did have a few problems with it at certain points, but i thought the good points outweighed the bad. ( I grew up with Star Wars and am a fan, but I am happy to go with the flow and do not hold the series up as precious and untouchable.) I'm going to go over a few things here but will try to avoid actual spoilers and try to skirt around stuff , hopefully it will make sense to people who have seen it but not give too much away. A lot of the backlash seems to stem from the depiction of Luke, I personally didn't have a problem with how he was depicted and i thought his reasoning made sense considering what he had been through previously. His first scene made me laugh and i was intrigued with where the story would go from there. Likewise i found Rey and Kylo's stories interesting and thought they took their characters to interesting places that were unexpected. A certain scene involving both their characters was probably the highlight of the film for me. Also the general battle scenes were good and found myself carried along with the momentum of these moments. The stuff i had a problem with was an early scene involving Leia and another section set on a casino planet that just seemed a bit off in realisation and structure. Besides that i kinda liked the new girl Rose, but thought her and Finns scenes were the weaker parts of the film (although i thought the character of Poe was used to better effect generally.) So overall a thumbs up from me, it was definitely a film i didn't find boring and i enjoyed, but felt certain parts were either not needed or mishandled slightly. I'm not sure how i would rank it against the others and really need to see it again to process everything better. Having said that i would still probably rate it 8/10

Not quite, and I hadn’t even made any comparison with The Wicker Man until now, I guess it does share some similarities with it

All the money in the world The film follows the real-life story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III and his mothers attempts to secure his release after his Grandfather J Paul Getty refuses to pay up. Ridley Scott fans have been struggling to defend him in recent years. Films like Prometheus and Alien Covenant were at best misguided and films like Robin Hood very poor indeed. Its nice to say then that his new film is an absolute corker and comes highly recommended. He paces the film brilliantly, the setting of 70's Rome ended up making me think of classic Italian crime pictures. The performances are great all round. Christopher Plummer is so good as Getty Snr its hard to imagine Spacey in the role at all. Michelle Williams is great as John Paul's mother Gail. In fact I'd go so far as to suggest the oscars might want to put her name on the list. Even markey mark manages to dig his way out of the blockbuster nonsense he's been doing for the last few years and brings his Boogie nights game to proceedings. Overall its worth watching. I would even suggest capturing it at a theatrical screening if you can. It looks magnificent as one might imagine from a Ridley Scott film. |

Liked Get Out. Mainly because of Tealeaf to be fair ... but twas also nice to see Catherine Keeler in the mix. Whilst not as heartstopping as say, The Lobster, I would still recommend it. Catfight (2016, Onur Tukel) A socialite and an artist reconnect after meeting at a snazzy 'do'. Whilst not for everyone (shit doth not blow up ) I enjoyed this wee oddity.
