It is a very well made and, like I said, quite moving, religious allegory for a series of films which I considered the equal of the original series of films, if not superior because of the way the apes are so realistic in their own behaviour and their interactions with humans.

The new series is much better with "Dawn" probably being my second favourite apes story after the original film.
Dawn was a great sequel, special effects were good and bit more sympathy from Ceasar towards man and the Ceasar/Koba fight was brilliantly done.

THE OMEGA MAN 1971

Robert Neville is a lone survivor of a apocalyptic plague when has either killed people or turned them into nocturnal creatures known as The Family. as he finds other survivors he tries to find a cure.

Charlton Heston gives us his best acting, he seems to follow a day activity, running/jogging in the morning looking for family members, going home and playing chess with a statue. Its not mentioned how the virus was leaked into the atmosphere but would it be a bad thing to know how it happened.

Being a film from the 70s it did cause a slight controverasry with a interacial couple that was not know at the time. Anthony Zerbe's portrayal as Matthias, leader of The Family is good and sinister as you don't know what is going through his head, is he a tormentor, or someone who like to play mind games. 8 out of 10.

There is another heston movie from the 70s Soylent Green, is that film any good?

I thought Rise of the Planet of the Apes was excellent but Dawn and War less so.

I like Soylent Green, it's an intelligent sci-fi film and a totally different sort of sci-fi to The Omega Man. It features the last performance of the great Edward G Robinson so it's worth a watch purely for him.

^ I completely agree with Demdike's sentiments; it's a film I enjoy and rate highly.

I think the best version of the "i am legend" story adapted in "The Omega man" is the Vincent Price film " Last man on earth".

Agreed. And that's not perfect by any means. To me Matheson's story is one of those unfilmable ones. Or at least so it seems.

The novel itself is a tale of human loneliness more than it is a horror or sci-fi thriller.

I thought Omega man ran out of steam fairly quickly. Soylent green is a far more consistent film.

Island Zero

A community finds itself trapped on a remote island off the east coast of America when the Ferry fails to arrive. Pretty soon things start turning up dead and it appears that a previously undiscovered race of underwater beasties have come to shore to feed after polishing off all the marine life in the area. Unfortunately for the characters but fortunately for the films low budget the creatures are invisible.
This ones a throwback to 70's eco horrors like Frogs, The Prophecy ect ect. Its likely to turn off a portion of its audience. Its slow moving and probably ten minutes too long. Its clearly low budget and the direction is fairly pedestrian. However I'm a sucker for this kind of film so I enjoyed myself.

Revenge

A young model/actor heads off into the desert with her boss. Two sleazy friends of his turn up and when he heads off they take the opportunity to rape the young woman. When she asks for her lover to call the helicopter to get her out of there he decides to try and cover things up by chucking her off a cliff. She doesn't die however, instead going a little nuts in a cave before heading out to hunt the men down one after the other.
If you've seen plenty of rape-revenge films in the past you'll pretty much guess what going on here. It does very little new with the genre. However it is worth watching because it does its thing very well indeed. Its got a level of brutality in the violence that reminded me of the films of Alexander Aja and french splatter like inside. Its got a moody electronic score that seems to be popular at the minute and the direction is assured and stylish. Worth a go.
