Action Point. 2018. A elderly man D.C. tells his granddaughter the story of how he owned and operated a theme park. Being a fan of Johnny Knoxville and his gang being idiots I was interested in watching this and heard mixed reviews about it. What we see in the trailer are the funny bits and by the time we see them in the feature film the laughs are gone. Loosely based on the park "Action Park"by Eugene "Gene" Mulvihill and his cutting corners on safety, Knoxville doesnt hold back on the stunts himself and happy to be in the firing line. Aside from being a comedy there is a bit of drama in this and shows how the lead actor can take things seriously. I still wouldn't go out my way to buy it at a high price. a94fcc35d570b1966d8f39d51a3f48c1035cbf305531aea585ac04f14be42054._UY500_UX667_RI_V_TTW_.jpg

Cop. 1988. When a woman is found dead in Hollywood, a detective takes on the case that may be related to a cold case and ignores the rules to get the killer. Based on a book that was deemed too violent to publish, James Woods stars as the unorthodox detective willing to bend the rules and Raymond J Barrie as his captain allowing some leniency. After the first ten minutes we are basically thrown into a gruesome murder that leads Woods into a world he isn't shy from and a poetry novelist Lesley Ann Warren lending a literature hand or two. This isn't fast paced and nothing rushed but does have one or two tense moments and a good final line. images (2).jpg

Avatar: The Way of Water. Longwinded bloated overblown guff. Felt like I was watching relaxing aquarium videos on YouTube. Given the whole concept of the planet Pandora is meant to be this living breathing organic world where everything lives in harmony the film looked fake as fake can be like a video game. Messy misfire from the normally reliable James Cameron. For the record I love the first one. Sent from my SM-G780G using Tapatalk |

Possessor (2020) Andrea Riseborough works for a secretive organization that uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people's bodies - ultimately driving them to commit assassinations for high-paying clients. Unfortunately i never really got into this film from Brandon Cronenberg, son of David. It has many traits of the senior Cronenberg such as high concept sci-fi and plentiful grisly gore but the whole thing felt uninvolving and i was a little bored at times. It seemed to lack a story i thought. Perhaps i simply wasn't in the mood. |

s-l1600bb.jpg JAWS 2 (1978) Rushed in to production while JAWS was still enjoying it's blockbuster run. For me, JAWS is still a stand alone movie but this sequel is well worth a visit. There are some very good scenes here, such as the attack on the water skier, the boy dragged along the water and hitting the boat, the girl swallowed whole as she rescues Sean and the shock moment of the burnt body in the surf. The young cast in the boats are believeble in the peril that faces them out in the water. Behind the scenes things did not go too well especially with Roy Scheider who really did not want to make this movie and even came to blows with director Jeannot Szwarc. So it's an enjoyable sequel in a time where sequels to movies were not really the thing and for me offers some nostalgia of the time and an unforgetable movie poster. |
