![]() The Worm Eaters. 1977. Re-watched this one after the epic year of 2020 when I first viewed it and still didn't get much better. We got a crazed German Hermit who is bullied by the local hicks of a town and he believes he can talk to worms and decides to use these worms for revenge and hopefully turn a few into worms and make them his slave. Grindhouse movie at it's best or worst...who knows, very tacky, low budget and plenty of laughs and gagging scenes to ensue a uncomfortable viewing. Definitely one not to take seriously. download.jpeg

![]() s-l16iiiiii.jpg THE HILLS HAVE EYES (1977) Raw, atmospheric and pretty intense. Enjoyed watching this again after a long time. "Stay on the road". Yep, should have taken notice of that statement. The desert location and the hills add to the isolation as sounds are heard in the rocks and one of the dogs get killed. Watching this time I thought, Bobby really should have told everyone what happened to the dog and what he heard as everyone was unprepared for the brutal attack on the Trailer at night. I remember seeing posters and advertising for the movie at the time and it really did scare you, even just to see those. |

![]() Black Mountain Side (2014) Interesting psychological horror about a group of archaeologists who discover what appears to be an ancient structure buried in the snow towards the arctic circle. What plays out is a dark thriller as the group face fears of isolation and strange physical mutations in a film thick with supernatural undercurrents. I really like this. It takes a bit of Carpenter's The Thing in addition to Larry Fessenden's The Last Winter and throws in some weird and wonderful folk horror in a beautifully photographed, nicely acted slow burning chiller where the last twenty minutes kind of reminded me of Eggers The Witch with it's spine chilling voice beckoning the archaeologists to... I recommend this to anyone who likes any of the movies i've referenced in this little write up. |

![]() Aftermath (1994) Set in a morgue, Aftermath depicts what happens when one twisted mortician let's his necrophiliac desires get the better of him when the corpse of a beautiful car crash victim is wheeled in front of him. What follows isn't the least bit erotic but it is disturbing in it's sterility and the matter of fact way the mortician mutilates, fondles and ultimately ****s the corpse laid out before him following a methodical autopsy. It's all shown so matter of factly with great attention to detail, even in the cleaning up and washing down the equipment and you come away from the film realising that such acts, although sickening, are so easy to carry out in the right environment. Nacho Cerda's half hour film is a hauntingly beautiful, gripping foray into the dark underbelly of horror with perfect synchronicity in it's use of lighting, music, sound effects and cinematography, in fact it's a technically brilliant piece of film making even if it's subject is a little on the sordid side. |
